Roberts wants redemption at the Ricoh

GARY Roberts says Swindon Town let themselves down on Tuesday when they lost 1-0 at home to Bury.

Town put in perhaps their worst league display of the campaign to fall victim to Steven Schumacher’s 21st-minute goal as the relegation-haunted Shakers took maximum points from their trek to Wiltshire.

An immediate chance for redemption comes in the shape of a trip to in-form Coventry tomorrow, where a win could take the Robins back to the top of the League One table if results elsewhere fall in their favour.

Coventry have hauled themselves to within five points of the play-off courtesy of three straight victories in a row away from home. However, at the Ricoh Arena the Sky Blues have been far from convincing.

Two consecutive league defeats and a loss to Crewe in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy mean the West Midlands club have not tasted victory on home soil since January 19.

Roberts is not taking anything for granted, and he stressed that Swindon must ensure they claim at least a point from the weekend clash.

“We let ourselves down on Tuesday night and if you look at the bigger picture it’s one defeat in 14 and we have to get back on the bike and get back to playing the way we can.

“We haven’t got a bad record away from home, it will be a nice stadium to go to and hopefully get the win.

“I know it was a bad loss, it wasn’t us. We’ve talked about it and it didn’t look like the Swindon team we’ve seen this season. We know where we’ve gone wrong but now it’s a different game and a totally different scenario.

“We’re playing a team who are pushing on rather than playing Bury who were fighting for their lives, which is a different challenge, but I think we’ve got enough here to win the game.

“At this point of the season you can’t afford to lose any games. When you see the teams around us you see it’s so tight. You lose one or two games and you look at Bournemouth, who are outside the play-offs now after being on a great run.

“Coventry are a big club with expectation and they’re on a good run. They beat Bournemouth away and if they beat us they’d fancy themselves to have a good run-in.

“It’s key if we don’t win the game that we don’t lose the game.”
