DAVID Howell kept in touch with the front-runners at the Tshwane Open as his search for a first European Tour title in seven years gathered pace.

The Swindonian, who last triumphed at the BMW Championship in 2006, fired a three-under-par round of 69 at Copperleaf Golf & Country Estate in South Africa this morning.

The Broome Manor pro is tied for sixth on eight-under overall, with a handful of players yet to complete their second rounds after play was suspended due to the threat of a storm.

Howell is four shots off the lead held by home player Charl Coetzee.
