stfclondon says
I'm looking forward to Coventry tomorrow. Should be a great away following for the start of a new era.
MacDonald will begin his reign as Swindon manager against one of his former clubs.
1:16pm
The Scot has described Ryan Giggs, who has signed a new deal with Manchester United, as the 'perfect professional.'
1:15pm
MacDonald is now answering questions from Sky Sports on topics not involving Swindon Town, and has said Gareth Bale is his player of the Premier League season so far.
1:14pm
The new Town boss might look to go back to former club Aston Villa to bring in young players, but admitted that may be difficult with Paul Lambert using a lot of them in the first team.
1:13pm
MacDonald is pleased to have heard a positive reaction to his appointment.
1:12pm
Very odd that I am listening "live" to BBC Wiltshire but am already reading the quote on #stfcadver before I hear them ! #paralleluniverse

1:11pm
MacDonald will keep Fraser Digby and Michael Peacock at the club.
1:11pm
MacDonald has said Jed McCrory is as enthusiastic about football as he is.
1:09pm
McCrory also revealed he is keen for the club to field an U21 side.
1:09pm
Jed McCrory confirms there will be money to spend.
1:08pm
Town chairman Jed McCrory on MacDonald.
"He is perfect for this club, and has an unquestionable record. His credentials stand out as much as anybody.
"I had a three and a half meeting with Tommy Miller and Darren Ward, and I heard what they felt the club needed. Between us we went through a list and Kevin ticked all the boxes."
"Ian (Wright) is a friend and we had spoken to him over a position at the club, but Kevin has the experience and ticks all the boxes."
1:06pm
KM: "I had a nice little holiday and played a lot of golf, but I was getting fed up at home and my golf wasn't getting any better, so I wanted to get back."
1:05pm
KM: "Mark Cooper will be a very good number two for me, and at the moment that will be it for new staff coming in."
1:05pm
KM: "We haven't spoken (with Jed) about money, but if there is a player good enough I will ask him."
1:04pm
KM: "We will have to wait and see (about bringing in new players) but I will be looking at a lot of games to see if there are any players good enough to join these players."
1:03pm
KM: "Initially it is important to try and get victories for the first team, but then help to develop the young players."
1:03pm
KM: "Jed sold the club to me, and I need to see if I can be successful as a manager. The club want to develop their own players, and traditionally they have had young players come through."
1:02pm
KM: "Swindon have done very well under Paolo Di Canio, but there are a lot of other big teams in the league."
1:01pm
KM: "The main aim is to win every game, and hopefully that is enough to get us into the Championship next season."
1:01pm
KM: "Swindon are in a good position, and they have a good reputation for bringing young players through."
1:00pm
KM: "It was an offer I could never refuse. I met Jed and we got on like a house on fire."
1:00pm
We are underway
12:58pm
Scrap that delay, now looks like we are going to be starting early.

A bit of a chequered career playing for 17 clubs in the lower realms and not too much to shout about as a manager. But this job is as assistant, so hopefully he will know a bit about the opposition at this level and will advocate a stylish game plan and not the aweful kick and rush we have seen so much of just lately.
Next question what loanees is Kevin bringing in and when

Well, with the appointment of terry Coopers son mark as assistant, it's answered my first question as to who the No 2 was going to be.

I hope you won't be judged solely on the next 12 games, I certainly won't. The depleted squad are all you have to work with on Saturday and all you can do is your best.
I hope you can bring in 3/4 good loans in the next few days to help improve our chances.
Good Luck :-)

I like Raffa but he hasn't turned up in the last two games. Williams on the wing sounds good to me, he is the only player we have that is willing to run at defences.
Unless Ferry is 100% fit I would prefer to see him given a break so he can give us 11 games rather than 1 or 2.

He has no footballing brain whatsover, get's bundled off the ball far easier than he should do and on the odd occasion he has used his pace to good effect it's typically to create an opportunity for himself and we all know what happens next!!

Williams has everything - except the ability to put the ball in the net
.
He has excellent control, skills to beat people and as you said is lightening quick to worry the opposition
.
That is why he is more suited to the wing (thus Yeovil played him mainly there!)
.
Plus as others have pointed out RDV has gone off the boil so probably needs a game or 2 out to shake him up a bit - he certainly plays better when he has the fear of being dropped (which disappeared with Ritchie!)
.
Luke could be given a shot - but is probably lacking match fitness so that is why I suggested him on the bench and Williams out wide
.
I'm with Oxon - don't risk Ferry if not fit - point is not the end of the world tomorrow so would rather we grind that out and let KM work qwith the squad for Walsall and then hopefully have a fit Ferry back for the remaining 11 games
.
Also what do people really expect from these press conferences?
.
It was the same last week - it is only ever going to be a quick affair - especially as the team are already on the road!
.
I'd rather he was out watching the first and youth team today to see what we have than answering pointless questions on Garath Bale!

Well done wardy and miller for stepping up in the interim.
Although it may have been fun to have Ian wright wright wright would I don't think now is the 'wright' time. A steady, experienced level head is what's needed and I feel that's what we've got. Wrighty just wouldn't have the time to dedicate himself to our cause.

Both Raffa and Roberts do not attack their fullbacks often enough probably due to lack of pace. To often they have a go only to turn and pass the ball inside or back with no ball into the box as a result .
We desparately needed someone on Tuesday that could get in behind their defence, the aerial bombardment was too easy and predictable. When Williams switched and the Rooneys came on we started to do that. Our best chances came in that final 15-20 minutes.

Things seem to be coming together well and not to much notice should be attached the scoreline. things are bound to change, they always do under fresh eyes. Its far from doom and gloom, and what if... we don't go up, well big shame, but at least we will have a team to support next season and I for one am very grateful of that.
Jed has surprised a few, and I'm glad he has, he is not letting the grass grow, nor is he dwelling in the recent past, he has moved the club on well and in good manner, and deserves praise for that, under some daunting circumstances he has continued to go forward in a quieter manner to which we have become accustomed, perhaps not a bad thing.

If you can get the boys back to playing attractive football on the ground with the confidence they had before also, you'll do well. However, if you allow them to continue with this hoofing from the back rather than quality build ups with one touch passing on the floor etc, you do not stand a chance of winning this league.
Also I have to say that the right hand side is much more productive with Nathan Thompson taking the ball forward and Macca in the middle of defence. Devita is usually good on the left so lets keep working with him as a starter with Luke Rooney as back up. Williams is not scoring goals so it needs to be Collins and Rooney up front with options on the bench.
I would also like to see Luke Rooney used on the left wing, Roberts on the right and Devita up front with Collins. Devita in my opinion is likely to score goals given half a chance so why not try this out?
Anyway, no hoofball at least would be a good start.
Good luck tomorrow to all the lads and the new boss.

Tuesday nights display showed that we need guidance from the bench.
I am looking forward to tomorrow, but I was not impressed with Mcceverley, and feel our best performances have been with Macca at left back. Williams runs a lot, but his first touch lets him down plus his lack of goals. I would start with both Rooneys, hopefully Simon is fit and RDV should also start. Navarro is either unfit or just not good enough.

Moving Macca into the midfield thus far more combatative in the middle than anything Miller and Navarro were able to do up to that point
Adam Rooney up front though not great doesn't get brushed off the ball in the same way that Williams does thus able to bring others in better than Williams ever does
I made a point of watching Williams on the wing in that last 15 minutes just to see if by chance he'd add another dimension to the team. Unsurprisingly he was more anonymous than he usually is for the last 30 minutes of most games
Would really love for this player to turn things around but he is'nt good enough Look at his record at Bristol Rovers i've got a couple of gashead mates who say we was a laughing stock there and as for Yeovil, for whatever reason, one good scoring season, don't take my word for it look at his record

TBH I'm not overawed by the comments made by Macca, especially when he said he won't be looking to bring players in unless there are more injuries.
Jeez we are down to bare bones now, we have no central midfield and we have strikers who can't score ( currently).
We are desperate for a playmaker with Ferry being injured and a goalscoring striker.
In all honesty I think I can kiss goodbye to my small wager of £75 unless we get some decent loanees in.

This is not a pop at McCrory or any of the other consortium members. We do need to face reality. But I don't think anything has been said about how much money has been put into the club. It's possible that the only investment so far is £1 from the consortium to buy it. We have been told about two companies who apparently are "ready to invest" and who don't want to be named. What exactly is "ready to invest" and what will turn the readiness into active investing? The new regime has made a good start. Some clarification would make it better.

To interpret that as running on a shoestring after a week in the job where he has settled in and recruited a manager and number 2 in a day is very much glass nearly empty not half empty.
Presume as Shrewsbury have piped down he has paid the Collins unpaid £25k, plus the usual expenses depending on the use of the Ritchie money?

Wonder how many fans of other clubs would be complaining if they had players with the goals they have.
Seems that unless a Swindon striker is top scorer in the league they are labelled as useless. All strikers miss chances but of course ours miss far more than anyone else.
Bhred, you have a point about the Macca switch but I saw little actually come from Macca. I saw Thompson link better with first Roberts and then with Williams. At least Williams, in your words, gave us 60 minutes as there were two on the field that didn't and both were substituted (too late IMO).

What I would love is a new boss to come in and on day 1 say "I'm going to sign loads of players as its obvious the current lot are not up to it" - that would give them a boost wouldn't it!
.
Its just the same when Jed said we had not drawn up a shortlist - yet Ian Wright has revealed he had a chat on Monday - so wheels were already in motion
.
KM may already have in mind what he thinks we need - but if not I'm sure he will look at the squad over the weekend and in Training early next week and then will probably make a move - he did say If someone good enough is available I will ask!
.
Remember Jed said he had a 3 hour chat with Miller and Ward - I'm sure shortages were discussed then and would have since been shared with KM to keep an eye on
.
I'm delighted KM wants to see our own players first - if that means Louis getting a shot ahead of a loanee is that really that bad?
.
As for being a coaching club that could also mean buying young talent, nuturing them and then selling them on - which is what Fitton wanted us to do
.
We were good at it with Cox, Austin, Morrison, Caddis and Ritchie all fitting that bill
.
If Jed wants to revert back to that that is fine by me!
.
I'm still unsure why everyone thinks everything is now on a shoestring - what evidence is there that is the case?
.
Jed has said our budget will remain in the same ball park - so wheres the shoestring?
.
He has got a Premiership coach in as Gaffer - again so wheres the shoestring?
.
He has said there are 2 backers already on board and more are still in discussions as they like the model - showing a plan is in place - again so wheres the shoestring?

Navarro is on 8K per week yet he couldn't pass water, and he doesn't care if he plays well or not anyway, nice paypacket for a 32 year old perennial substitute. Ferry is one of the few remaining players who understands football. As for the likes of Flint, I think he should play for the opposition as he seems to like passing to them! New payers required and as Paolo kept saying- a new striker.
There is an element of the Swindon fans who are educated in terms of football, and then there are others. The likes of who supported the appointment of Gorman and the purchase of that atypical of carthorses, Keith Scott (bought for our premier league season.) A naive attitude and the best of intentions from fans and the board will not win promotion this year. We will not hit the playoffs let alone automatic promotion.

An very uninspiring appointment indeed. Experience? Credentials? MacDonald has never managed a top flight club other than as a caretaker or as an assistant to others. As a player, he was average- part of the 'Liverpool double team"- he only played for four months! "Give the guy a chance" they say, let's have a go at promotion they say". "Good will and getting behind the lads" only goes so far. The reason Di Canio was so unpopular with the players is he was strict and a tyrant at training- but it got results. Fascism aside, Paolo had a high class pedigree a la Messrs Macari, Hoddle and Ardiles. No disrespect to Kevin, but he would be more at home with Barnet. Navarro is on 8K per week yet he couldn't pass water, and he doesn't care if he plays well or not anyway, nice paypacket for a 32 year old perennial substitute. I fail to see why you feel the need to ention that though?
.
You talk of Di Canio's style as a pointer to his success, yet cannot claim to have any idea of what KM's style is, or have you just decided to leave it out at the expense of comparison?
.
Talk to anyone that knows KM, and he is held in extremely high regard. Does it count for anything in terms of his tenure at STFC? only time will tell.

You seem to welcome debate on your point, yet your point is that you have clearly written KM and his team off before they have even kicked a ball in anger. Maybe we should have looked to Farnborough for our next manager.

Desperately disappointed. Been following the Town since '79 so abusive responses are not warranted but would listen to intelligent ones. With respect, Farnborough Robin.

I fail to see why you feel the need to ention that though?

You talk of Di Canio's style as a pointer to his success, yet cannot claim to have any idea of what KM's style is, or have you just decided to leave it out at the expense of comparison?
.
Talk to anyone that knows KM, and he is held in extremely high regard. Does it count for anything in terms of his tenure at STFC? only time will tell.

You seem to welcome debate on your point, yet your point is that you have clearly written KM and his team off before they have even kicked a ball in anger. Maybe we should have looked to Farnborough for our next manager.

OK, I hold my hand up and admit to a poor choice of phrase. However, are the new owners really going to give MacDonald an annual player budget of £4.5m? And if they do, where is it going to come from? And why? Doesn't it mean we just start the process of getting into the sh1t all over agan? Whoever is going to put the money in is unlikely to walk away without wanting it back, as Black and Arbib have done. Then what? I think there are important questions unanswered. If others don't see it that way, fair enough. But I don't see why raising those questions is negative or "glass nearly empty". Good luck to the players and the new management team for tomorrow.
Many have been saying for a while now that we need a new stadium that provides income etc. Many have been underwhelmed by the thought of Concerts at the CG but it does start to move along the lines of generating new revenue.
The new board do seem to be looking at what we have and what we can use it for. We have a stadium, what can you do in a stadium other than play football ?
With the right bands booked 5-6 concerts a year could generate a substantial income. Tickets for top bands are not cheap these days and venues outside the main cities with a capacity greater than 1-2,000 are few and far between.
These concerts, if they come off, could finance 2, 3, 4, 5 players for a season depending which league we are in.
It shouldn't affect the playing surface as this can be protected. Someone mentioned Wembley being messed up by concerts but this is garbage. Concerts haven't been staged at the new Wembley where the pitch was poor only at the old Wembley and there were no problems there.
Alternatively, the money from concerts could perhaps be put aside to finance ground improvements. At some point the Town End could be developed with Night Club, Restaurant or Casino included in the build.
With regard to money being invested by the owners. Can they invest and then ask for it back ? I thought the 65% of income rule meant that equity can be put in to increase income but can't then be taken back. Maybe wrong but it would seem pointless to me to allow it if it just puts the club into debt. After all the 65% ruling is supposed to protect clubs against running up big debts in the future. May well be wrong but that is my take on it.

Ferry is one of the few remaining players who understands football. As for the likes of Flint, I think he should play for the opposition as he seems to like passing to them! New payers required and as Paolo kept saying- a new striker. There is an element of the Swindon fans who are educated in terms of football, and then there are others. The likes of who supported the appointment of Gorman and the purchase of that atypical of carthorses, Keith Scott (bought for our premier league season.) You seem to welcome debate on your point, yet your point is that you have clearly written KM and his team off before they have even kicked a ball in anger. Maybe we should have looked to Farnborough for our next manager.
He seems to come highly recommended by many at Villa
I think he's earned the right and we need to get full square behind him
Having said all of this I do hope he appreciates very soon that we desperately need quality reinforcements

"This guy KM has no real record as he has only ever been an assistant. That is the only thing I worry about at this stage of the season. We really needed a proven winner in my opinion but I hope he proves me wrong."
- I've no idea either if he will be a success or not. One thing I do know is that the above could have been said about Steve Clarke who looked as if he would be a lifetime coach, but never a manager.
I'll give K M the benefit of the doubt, especially after hearing some of the comments from ex colleagues.

The chat about poor performing players is a little awry.
Maybe PDC made them too nervous?
Maybe they get a little bit lazy?
Williams, Luke Rooney etc will come good again.
The mighty 3000 + Red Army need to ousting Cov tomorrow and be the 12th man. Luke Rooney will score the winner :-)

Outwardly, KMac is probably the polar opposite to Paolo - as stated many times on here I wish Paolo was still with us and I will not attack him as others frequently do - but we do have to move on as you also accept.
Our new manager is highly recommended by many who are in the professional game, do some research, I had too!
Yes some of us are definitely now more optimistic than a few days ago against Bury.
We still have a nucleus of an excellent team that Paolo put together and this new man may just be mature enough, eager enough, determined enough and hold the man management skills to bring back the confidence into this team AND the results.
Don't forget MacDonald has had 17 years coaching experiencing in the top league with the same club and also international experience as an Assistant Manager.
If KMac and/or the board believes Mark Cooper is a very good choice as A/Mgr why should we question it at this stage?
The CG will never become a desert anyway, Marcus Cassidy won't allow it.
Your ambitions may be stirred again soon so hang in there and don't give up - a few wins and the hangover will pass.

Talk about knocking a bloke before he has even taken control of his first match.
Pdc had never managed before he came to us and everyone said we were mad to appoint him.
Can't some of you people just once try and be positive I am sick off reading posts on here from people moaning and groaning all the bl.oody time it's pathetic it really is.

Some of us asked questions about PDC; some of us asked questions about the motives of Fitton, Wray, Arbib and Black. It didn't mean we weren't supporting them. But asking those questions seemed to amount to treason in some people's eyes. Now those people - or some of them -have turned like wounded animals on Black and Di Canio. I prefer to keep my feet closer to earth in the first place. That way the eventual landing isn't so bumpy.

Anyone at West Brom complaining about Steve Clarke? Ffs. Unbelievable. Give him a chance. As for the youth team players its the only real way we will survive. By developing and signing young playerS we will add value on the playing side. (This is something I thought Paolo was good at. Making players better).
On this wish people would stop going in about Macca in midfield and get off Navarro's back. The former needs to stay at centre half (if selected) as Nathan is currently way better. AN has just come back from a major injury, give him a break.
I'd like to see the other Tompson twin given a run out in midfield if Ferry is still out. I'd like Marlon Pack or Bostock back or anyone else KM sees fit.
Let's let him get on with the job and hope he does better than the serial choker Wilson and somehow gets us up.

There is no guarantee they would have succeeded whoever you wanted. Paolo was not guaranteed to acheive the promotion the majority want.
Proven managers that are out of work are usually out of work because they have failed at their latest assignment.
We have who we have and time will tell whether it was a good choice. He is unproven but he could turn out to be fantastic.
I say back him and not just for the next 12 or 14 or 15 matches but into next season as well. He may fail to get us promoted but in reality he cannot be blamed for the goings on over the last 2 months. Nor can the board for that matter.
I wish I could see into the future, as well as some seem to be able to, but I can't and will have to wait to see like the rest of us.

I won't be comparing your appointment to any previous ones as that is totally unfair. Only time will tell as to whether you are going to be successful. What I do like is the principles you have featured of focusing on youth and team discipline. I am also impressed that neither fans of former clubs you have been at nor players have had a bad word to say about Mr McDonald. He comes with good references.
I don't expect them to engineer a win tomorrow or indeed, to secure promotion at the end of the season despite the fact we are in a good position at present. I do expect them to bring young players through and to encourage the team to play good football. And I do expect us to be in the Championship by the time their contract ends.

However, the second point you make is the crucial one. I'm not so sure we will ever get answers to what motivates the people who put money into our club or most other clubs come to that. For Abromavitch it's a play thing. What was Black's motivation? I'm grateful but bemused.
The only investments that are in any way commercially transparent are ones like the Glaziers (ie milk the brand to pay debt). That has been more successful than many Stretford End faithful who ply their trade on the terraces of Gig Lane supporting FC United would have you believe.
My guess is that McCrory is a football fan, wants to run a biggish club, has limited funds, has consortium mates who might earn a few bob putting on concerts at the CG but ultimately wants a manager who can bring through talent and sell on to re-invest. We'll only be able to stop selling when enough turn up at the CG and we can get enough TV/sponsorship to say otherwise.
With mcDonald's credentials and Bodin's track record, I think he stands a chance of succeeding.

With his contacts he may well be able to bring faces in that hitherto would not have been possible.
If an England international like Gareth Barry says he is a really good coach then that speaks volumes to me.
Perhaps its not the amount of coaching that he does but the quality of it that counts. For the sake of the owners, club and team and of course us guys out here I honestly do hope he does well, and I refuse to judge him on immediate results.

That leaves 20 odd players on £54,000 which is £2,700 per week if that was only the players wage which it isn't so can't see that being correct.I would have guessed the players wage bill is at least £175,000 per month so divide that by say 21 players that's about 8 grand per month even though some players will be on various amounts so 8 grand per week just can't see it or are my sums wrong. If 21 players were on say 5 grand per week that's 420 grand per month and way over the stated £250,000 to include manager and all staff.
Desperately disappointed. Been following the Town since '79 so abusive responses are not warranted but would listen to intelligent ones.
With respect,
Farnborough Robin.

Big name appointments like you said have no guarantee to reap success it will be a man who can get the best out of these players and I reckon we have our man after listening to ex players under him and Villa fans. All this apparently, after he missed a train from Swindon station to Paddington this evening!!!

Thats it from me iv'e read enough. The new team have only been together 1 day and already they are doomed. What a load of S***t some of you write.
Lets give them a big welcome tomorrow, win lose or draw.
Message for Bradleyred, donaldslovechild, ScottLeitch and Farnborough - try and keep some semblance of positivity while the club lurches though this horrific descent into the abyss.
Somehow you'll pull through this abject misery you're sharing with everyone, really you will.

Farnborough Robins wrote:Hi Ali, welcome. Was p1ssing myself reading this. Even without the farnborough title I think I would've guessed it was you. You've certainly stirred things up which I would only expect from you, classic. Your obviously not impressed by the new manager but I say give him a chance, so pleased fascisto has gone, let him go sulking back to his Right wing, mustard gas loving shysters, good manager but a moody little child. Anyway thought you might have put billy bonds forward for the job, or even your dad? Laters dude and welcome to the forum, lets stir it up.
Desperately disappointed. Been following the Town since '79 so abusive responses are not warranted but would listen to intelligent ones.
With respect,
Farnborough Robin.

It's OK he broke into a train and took off with it however after an initial safe journey the going got tough so he derailed it and strolled on.

Glad his first game in charge is away, where he will get 100% support from the fans and not have to hear the boo boys who were totally out of order at the CG last Tuesday.
Really looking forward to the game and a good footballing performance from STFC with a 3 - 1 victory as Clarke is bound to score against us for their goal.
I like the appointment, even more because with all the usual names being chucked about(by everyone),no one saw this 1 coming.
Which is a Swindon Town tradition.
Anyone know how long Kev Mac signed a contract for?
I've not read anything or must have missed it
