Salem set for ABA outing
6:00am Saturday 2nd March 2013 in Sport
WALCOT boxer Said Salem enters the regional round of the Senior ABA Championships at Shepton Mallet today.
Due to injury and illness among many of the seniors at the club, Salem is the sole representative from the central Swindon gym.
This is the most important tournament in British amateur boxing, with the likes of Nigel Benn, Frank Bruno and Walcot’s own Jamie Cox having previously won the event.
With three other hopefuls entered at his 63.5kg category, the 21-year-old faces the possibility of boxing twice in the same evening.
However Salem is looking forward to the challenge.
He said: ‘I have been training hard and I know I’m fit and hopefully ready to box twice if necessary.
Chief coach Harry Scott said: “It will be tough for Said to get through but he is a good boxer who always gives his best.”
The action starts at 6.30pm at the Shepton Mallet Leisure Centre.
