Darren Ward scored the winner for Town this afternoon, and after coming up to see the media his first words were "what a week."
DARREN WARD
“It has been a real testing week because so much has happened, and to get the win was amazing," he said.
“I could have exploded when I scored and done 10 laps of the pitch, and I wanted to celebrate in front of our crowd because it has been really hard.
“The win was for everyone, and I thought I owed a few people one, but it was great to get one done.”

Striker Andy Williams has spoken of the Town squad's relief at getting the result today.
ANDY WILLIAMS
“There is a big relief for everyone, because if it was on points we would have won easily," he said.
“It looked like it was going to be one of those days, but we stuck in there and got the winner.
“I did well to get in some good positions and maybe I should have scored earlier, but I came off best in a little game of pinball and got the ball in the back of the net.
“We have showed we have got character in recent week, and we showed that again today.”
5:38pm
Still waiting to speak to the players, but we are hoping to hear from Andy Williams and Darren Ward.

Kevin MacDonald has spoken to the media following today's victory.
KEVIN MACDONALD
“I thought the support was fantastic, and the way and speed that things have happened in the last week it was a great performance," he said.
“The way the players reacted was a testimony to the way Darren and Tommy have worked with them during their time in charge.
“It was fantastic for Darren to score the winner, and you saw his delight in scoring and it will release a lot of pressure in him. It’s hard to be a caretaker let alone a player-caretaker.
“I was delighted for young Nathan too, because he made a little mistake and bounced back really well. The most important thing was the way he reacted.
“Wes made a wonderful save, and you will not see many better in the whole weekend. Fraser Digby told me has a great chance and he proved it.
“It has been hectic preparing s game and it was a bit surreal, but it was a great start.
“The players are the ones who have got the club here, and they deserve a lot of credit for what they have achieved.
“These lads are capable of going on a five or six match winning run, and they played very very well.
“I will watch the DVD of the game tonight, and try and get my throat back for Monday morning.”
5:14pm

4:52pm
90 minutes: GOAL 2-1 TOWN (Ward) Luke Rooney floats in a corner which Ward rises to head home. The Town bench, and fans, go wild, and so they should. Five minutes added.
4:51pm
87 minutes: Town go in search of the winner, and win a free-kick when Thompson is brought down by Moussa wide on the edge of the box. The free-kick goes short to Raffa De Vita, who scuff his shot.
4:49pm
85 minutes: GOAL 1-1 (Williams) Adam Rooney gets one shot off which is blocked, then another which hits the post, and Andy Williams is just about there to bundle it home. No more than Town deserve as they have dominated this game.
4:46pm
YELLOW CARD: Very odd booking for Coventry keeper Joe Murphy, who is shown the yellow card for not taking a goal kick while a substitution is taking place.
4:45pm
SUBSTITUTION: David Bell replaces Gary McSheffrey for the home side.
4:43pm
79 minutes: Luke Rooney flights a corner into the six-yard box, but Flint rises and can only head over. Has to do better.
4:40pm

4:37pm
SUBSTITUTION: Adam Rooney replaces James Collins.
4:37pm

Attendance: 14,280 (3,000 Town fans)
Think they may have just taken a guess at the away following.....which is immense.
4:33pm
68 minutes: Nathan Cameron brings down Williams and is booked, with Town winning a free-kick on the edge of the area. Rooney and Roberts both have shots charged down, and when the ball is lifted back into the box, Miller has a shot which is deflected behind for a corner. It's cleared.
4:31pm
67 minutes: Wes Foderingham makes a great save to deny Clarke’s downward header.

4:24pm

40 minutes: Roberts strikes a free-kick straight at Murphy.
3:43pm
37 minutes: Williams shows good strength to out-muscle his man and get a shot off which hits the post, but it comes back to the striker who balloons over from a couple of yards. Apart from the error, sound promising.
Very promising I would say, Town playing with a lot of confidence here.
3:34pm
29 minutes: Williams rolls his man superbly to storm towards goal, but his shot just goes wide. MacDonald thought it was in, much to the delight of the home crowd. In truth, he should have scored having done the hard work.
3:33pm
28 minutes: Williams wins another corner for Town, which Ward heads back across goal before it is cleared.
3:29pm
NON-LEAGUE UPDATE: Swindon Supermarine 2 Sholing 1
3:28pm
Town are more than a match for the home side so far, and have enjoyed a good five-minute spell of possesion without being able to find an end product. Williams and Collins are linking well up top, with the midfield keen to get involved. MacDonald continues to urge Roberts to stay on his wing, and wants Town to get the ball wide to him.
3:24pm
18 minutes: Williams is away again and pulls the ball back for Simon Ferry, but the midfielder’s shot is in the middle of the goal and Joe Murphy tips over. The corner is cleared.
3:22pm
16 minutes: Baker whips in a great ball which beats Nathan Thompson, but when it falls at the feet of McSheffrey he mis-controls eight yards out and the chance is gone.
3:21pm
15 minutes: Andy Williams wriggles free down the right and fizzes in a good cross but there’s no-one there.
3:16pm
YELLOW CARD: Thompson goes into the book for a block on McSheffrey, who made a big deal of it. Darren Ward clears Carl Baker’s free-kick. (11)
3:14pm
Nine minutes: Andy Williams almost catches Aaron Martin out, but can't rob him of possesion.
3:11pm
Town are lining up in a 4-4-2, with Simon Ferry on the right of midfield.
MacDonald is wearing a tracksuit, for those asking.
3:09pm
Thompson should take a fair amount of blame for losing the ball there, but the pitch, which is covered in sand, certainly didn't help.
3:07pm
Two minutes: Goal 1-0 Coventry (Moussa) The Kevin MacDonald era gets off to the worst possible start as Nathan Thompson is robbed by Gary McSheffrey who feeds Frank Moussa who slots home.
3:05pm
One minute: Town attack straight from kick-off, and win a corner which is cleared.
3:02pm
And we're off!
3:02pm
Town to kick towards their own fans in the first half, as Leon Clarke's name is roundly booed when it is read out.

MACDONALD ON: His backroom staff
MARK COOPER
"I am quite a thoughtful person and I tend not to say too much, and when I do it’s because I have thought that through. Some people say that’s wrong and that you should speak off the top of your head, but that’s not the way I am.
"I am a bit of a neanderthal when it comes to modern communication and media websites, but it is nice to hear positive things (about his appointment). That can change very quickly, but it is nice that people are pleased with what Jed has done.
"I was getting fed up at home, the missus wasn’t too happy with me, and the golf wasn’t getting any better, so it was right for me to come back.
"I had a nice little holiday and played a lot of golf, but I wanted to get back in so otherwise I wouldn’t have come back this early.
"I have only just met them (Fraser Digby and Michael Peacock) today and we got on very well, but we will sit down and talk.
"Mark is Terry Cooper’s son, the ex-England international, and has played in teams like Birmingham and managed at the lower levels which will be a great, and I think he will be a great ally for me."
2:42pm
DANGER MEN

Leon Clarke
Town fans need no introduction to the striker, who was famously involved in an on pitch confrontation with former Town manager Paolo Di Canio during his short time at the County Ground. Bound to get a bad reception from the travelling red army, but is a striker to be feared having scored 20 League One goals this season.

Gary McSheffrey
The wide man is a Coventry stalwart, despite having spent a few largely unsuccessful years away at Birmingham. Not got the pace he is used to, but he is a tricky customer who can cut inside and drag the full back out of position. He is also capable of shooting from long range, and needs to be watched.

Carl Baker
The Coventry skipper makes his side tick, whether from the centre of midfield or wide on the right. He is a good passer, strong tackler, and all-round leader of his side. Can contribute goals too, and will always be a threat.
2:38pm
MACDONALD ON: Why he joined Town
"Part of it is because of the way Jed sold the club to me, but part of it is also having been reasonably successful as a coach I need to see if I can be successful as a manager.
"The way it was portrayed to me is that this is going to be a coaching club because they want to try and bring through young players too, and because traditionally they have had younger players come through.
"For me that is good, and having worked with Elite Players in international football and in the Premier League I don’t have any worries about dealing with the senior players.
"Initially the important thing is to try and get the victories for the first team, and if we do that and keep pushing on it’s easier to get better quality of players to the club, which in turn helps the younger players when they join in with training sessions."

2:36pm
MACDONALD ON: Swindon's past
They are in a good position and traditionally had some good young players come through too, and I have worked a lot on that side, but it was the way Jed portrayed the club to me.
I have known it from afar and the club has been up and down in the last few years, but it is the perfect fit for myself.
The main aim is to win each game which comes along, and hopefully that will give us enough points to get into the Championship next season.
There would be no point in Jed coming to the club if it didn’t go that far forward, because it wouldn’t be viable for him either.
They have been very successful and done very well under Paolo Di Canio, but there are a lot of other good teams in this league and they need another push forward.
The club itself has done fantastically well over the last few years, although it has been up and down, and now we just need to make sure it keeps going forward.

2:32pm
MACDONALD ON: How he arrived at Swindon
"It was an offer I couldn’t refuse.
"Earlier this week Jed spoke to my agent, and I came down to speak to him and we got on like a house on fire.
"I spoke to Jed on Thursday, but he had spoken to my agent on Wednesday. It came out of the blue myself, but I have looked at one or two other jobs. Jed agreed to see me, we had a chat and he was happy to offer me the job which I was happy to accept.
"The big thing is the club is in a good position, they have just been taken over by new people, and when Jed spoke to me he was enthusiastic about football as I am about football.
"Maybe Jed more so as a fan, but that doesn’t mean my opinion is any better because I have worked in football a lot longer.
"I was impressed with his enthusiasm, and I am convinced we can push on and be successful."

"The Scot has introduced an intriguing line-up this afternoon, and we're trying to figure it out.
"Gary Roberts could be playing in a three with Andy Williams and James Collins up front, or he could be given a free role behind the front two with either Alan McCormack or Tommy Miller sitting in front of the backline.

1- People are having a go at the whole new set-up this match is a freebie for MacDonald as he hasn't had chance to review his stock.....today is down to the players to prove their worth.
.
2) All this bring on Luke Rooney stuff - he hasn't played this season and will be way off the pace.....but why not cheer on what is on the pitch!!?...it is a bit earlu to be moaning.
.
.....I'd also like to underline that I still believe that Collins and Williams can deliver......just not together - and I said that way back in the season....they just don't look right as a partnership.

Never deserved to lose and the best team after the 1st minute! despite Willo's traumas and Nathan's opening five minutes.
The very fact there was a gaffer on the bench seemed to make the difference from Tuesday and the late introduction of Rooney L and Rafa gave us the extra spark.

Nathan's mistake for their goal thankfully he went on to have his usual solid game.
Wes' save from Clarke was world class.
Williams goal, about time we got a scrappy goal.
Wards goal a change for us to get a late winner.
The best performance from a Town team for many weeks, no hoofball just players passing to each other and running Coventry ragged. If that's what MacDonald can do after a couple of days the league is there for the taking.
Hope we get a big crowd next week as Walsall will be a really hard game.
Still think it will be our away form that will win us the league with the fantastic travelling support we have as the "12th man"

McDonald's after-match comments so much more considered and must give
encouragement to the players. In particular young Thompson who would have been subbed and castigated by Di Canio after very early mistake.Much happier with McDonald and Cooper in charge than Di Canio who did well but at what a cost;and all the tantrums and uncertainty. He went at the right time as he would have been off anyway by the end of the season. Not changed with age since his playing days.Would love to see him at Leeds with Bates-what theatre that would be!

Don't make many away games due to kids football in the morning but had hoped to get to this one having seen Olympic games there in the summer.
Had earmarked two others, Yeovil and MK Dons but both re-arranged :-(
Definately going to Scunthorpe though regardless of kids football or promotion decider.
Great start for Kevin and brilliant response from the players. Do need to learn to cope with the pressing at home to enable our passing game to take over.
We may need to play deeper to create move space for the midfield but I am hopeful the new boss will sort it.

absolutely love, love, loved today!!! What a crowd, does anyone know the official number?? We took 2 car loads of 3 generations of Town supporters and all had a great day. Loved the 'we fill your ground for you' chants. We dominated the game but i really felt that a good performance was going to go unrewarded, with 10 left i'd have loved 1-1, to win was just immense and how much did the players love it!! Was so proud at end and so pleased for Wardy and Miller after waht must have been a tough week. Promising early signs for new regime lots of football being played and much less hoofball. As for the team, fantastic save Wes surely a future prem keeper?? nathan played well after his early mistake and good to see comments from the manager there. Mcevely had a bit of a shocker for me, sound enough defensively but distribution woeful. Wardy and Flint very good against a tough opponent. Roberts linked up well lots of times and did a lot of good stuff but too often he just doesn't get that final ball into the box. Ferry did well first half, good passing as ever but faded a bit 2nd half, prob due to his time out with injury. thought macca did very well back in his old position some great tackles, driving forwards, had a good chance as well, one magig moment when up against 3 players he somehow came away with the ball, he did waste some passes though. Was impressed with Miller today especially his tackling, several times won us the ball back in dangerous areas. Collins battled gainfully but never really got any good chances. Willo what can we say, so frustrating, he does all the hard work, terrorises the back four then misses the one on one again and again!! So hard to say whether this will ever improve but he is certainly a handful. A Rooney, i castigated earlier in season had him at back of a list of about 6 strikers but have warmed to him over last month, he puts himself about and is def improving. Luke rooney was lively when on and gald he is back in the fold, raffa less time but still looked sharp. great result, great day, also thanks to the town fan who decided to buy my kids kinder eggs in a shop after the game!!1 COYR!

Then, sat behind the new Board, listened to their stunned enthusiasm about the fans and squad and yes, I heard them say how proud and privileged they were to have taken charge.
Then, we equalised, then we went 2-1 up and won.
Well, in the exec box all you could hear was the Cov guys being jealous.
So, we need to take this win and move ever upward. So very blinking proud!!! Thanks to the fans of Swindon and to Grange Jaguar for probably one of the greatest days out this year!! Woo hoo!

Absolutely magnificent from start to finish.
Kevin MacDonald's team selection, the way he handled himself during and after the game all bodes well for the future.
Make no mistake, don't be fooled by the closeness of the result - anything other than a victory for us would have been a travesty.
We should have been one up after about 20 seconds, and then went one behind a minute later when Nathan dwelt too long on the ball on a ropey pitch.
But from then we dominated with fantastic pass and move football, creating chance after chance. A joy to watch, certainly Championship football at least.
Lastly the fans. What can you say? Spectacular support from the WHOLE of the away end. Incredible, take a bow everyone.
This was as good as Tuesday was bad.
To turn it round in the space of a few days shows superb, decisive leadership. Look at the opposition today, they lost their manager a few weeks ago and havent replaced him and now their confidence is shot.

As expected, following trouble at Coventry City's game at Swindon Town earlier this season, there was trouble before and after the return game at the Ricoh Arena this afternoon.
Swindon Town fans have been accused of smashing up a pub and a chip shop in Longford, breaking the collarbone of an Everton fan, according to twitter after being jumped on by a car load of Swindon fans and starting a trouble in the Tesco car parks with reports of weapons being used in a fifty man brawl.
There are also reports of a man drinking in Block 16 through the game. Numerous complaints are under stood to have been made to the Stand Manager and this provoked a fight by the exit on the final whistle.

I also tend to ignore London Red nowadays, as he cannot even get his statistics right any more.
In his post on another thread this morning, London Red claimed Benson has only scored once for Cheltenham, an absolute inaccuracy, as I have seen him score at least two goals!!
To be honest Laz, London Red is a liabiliy on here, who was sadly missing recently when we almost went into administration and is best ignored.

absolutely love, love, loved today!!!
I think that's an excellent appraisal stigger of how the lads played today. I would just like to underline two: Nathan Thompson, after his shocking mistake and then a booking came back so strong and turned in a terrific performance. What a star in the making that boy is. Who needs Caddis??
Miller often gets a bit of stick, or gets overlooked, but I thought he was excellent today. Glued it all together in midfield, won the ball, and was at the heart of a lot of those intricate passing moves.
Oh - and what a save by Wes. Great reflexes at point blank range and such a strong hand to palm it away to safety.
But all the team contributed today - great performance and looks like KMac has got his team sussed and playing already.

Thoroughly recommend a read of Stigger's report above which is spot on.
The MOM today was the 12th Man behind that goal. For the first 20 mins of the second half the fans were going a bit quiet, frustrated we couldn't get the goal we deserved. Then the singing burst in to life and I'm sure we will all get an assist for the equaliser.
Also great to be able to celebrate after with the players without them being shoved aside by a figure hypocritically punching his heart.
Only down side was that it was the first time I've been to a match with the kids and wished I'd not let them wear colours. There was an unpleasant atmospehere around the ground today and was walking through the Tesco car park just after the Town fan had been knocked out. I hope none of our fans took part in any moronic behaviour.
Still didn't spoil a fantastic Town performance.

If you think I'm being unkind see grims or any other post from anybody else in the stadium. The blokes behind me were screaming for Willo to be taken off. In contrast my other favourite diva Joan had a good game worked hard and was unlucky to be taken off.
make sure you clap williams off Jockster!!
Plusses for Luke & Rafa when they came on, call it luck or fortune or whatever but the extra edge allowed us to get the two goals to win the game.
Ian/avo please treat my approach to W & C as "tongue in cheek" it's my affectionate form of address but seriously when Willo misses a chance a 92 granny in a wheelchair could put away with aplomb -and not just once it does get frustrating - particularly if you're there watching it like today and the misses always seem worse when we're chasing the game like we have been recently.

It is only one game but if it does nothing else I hope the quality of the football puts puts to bed the myth that we played great stuff under PDC and we would struggle to do it without him. Apart from that wonderful spell around the turn of the year, we've played mostly hoofball this season until today.
PDC could be a mesmerising character, so much so that I'm sure he had people refusing to believe their own eyes.

Very pleased to hear the match today, couldn't make it, up all night with things. An old buddy of mine from Coventry said, on the phone, he went and saw the best visiting club this season and reckoned we played some good stuff and were very worthy of the win. His words, "You should have been out of sight before half time, we were awful".
Very pleased to hear both Rooneys did well. I keep saying it, play Raffa up front, he is a striker, why go out and buy what we already have. Our two do not work as a pair, and until they do their tally will suffer, they need to feed off each other and its not happening.

Willo guilty of some poor misses, but kept going and scored a scruffy important one. Interesting to see if KMac can get the best out of him. He can start by telling him to cut out the histrionics, I think he's been watching a bit too much Spanish football....
Thought Macca was man of the match, really drove the midfield and put himself about.
Again though a good team performance, and thought KMac was very good on interview. I've not heard a negative comment yet about his chances from peers and players he's coached, so despite the fears of doom from some on this forum within minutes of him joining, all doesn't appear lost just yet. Quite the opposite I would say, a very encouraging start.

Miller did have a better game but then he like them all could hardly play worse than against Bury. So too early to gauge whether its down to post traumatic PDc disorder.

9 Ward Led from the back and hard work rewarded with winning goal.
7 Ferry OK first half but faded, still not 100% fit.
8 Miller Looked much better in both breaking up their play and creating for us.
9 McCormack Gave us that bite in midfield that has been missing won tackles he had no right to. Box to box workrate excellent.
8 Roberts Looks much better player now and playing with a bit of freedom. Just needs to get early ball in to be more effective.
8 Collins Worked hard as usual had no real opportunity but always a threat.
7 Williams 95% of his game would rate at 9 just the most important bit missing (hitting the target) so pleased he got a scrappy goal, hopefully he will go on a scoring run now.

I hope now that things will settle down so the likes of the new guys can get on and maintain progress.
I'm so very pleased that the players have responded in such a positive manner and that Luke Rooney is now back into the fold, as it were. I'm wondering now about the likes of Benson and our other players that have been loaned out. No doubt SuperMac will be assessing them as time ticks on, and tick on it will now as the season draws into its last quarter.
I think it may be easy to over look the work that Miller and Ward put in, this should not go as taken for granted by any means, the resurgence yesterday was to be savoured and the goal from Ward a surely well deserved reward .
From what I have read and from what I have seen a comparison can maybe be drawn as to contrasting styles of person/coach /manager and I don't want to analyse this to the nth degree, but, its seems for the sake of expediency PDC bought in as much as he could, "the finished or nearly finished article" as goes players, where as it seems SuperMac is more along the lines of developing players on. If this is the case then although we may remain as a selling club, we will enjoy seeing players developed and nurtured on and that income from when they are sold will help keep this club solvent. It now beggars the question of players like Cox, Rooney and Smith, not to mention the likes of Connell, Kennedy and Bodin perhaps who have the raw ingredients but not the final polish. As usual time will tell, but if SuperMac is able to develop these guys we still have it leaves us asking the question as to the talent we have let go in the recent few months, perhaps slash and burn in the quest of quick progress came at a price too high, but note one thing, even though I loved the guy, are we still missing Matt Ritchie ? maybe, but not as much as some feared.

I rasied a point a previous thread at the time of his departure that asked which Matt Ritchie Bournemouth had signed.
MR the left winger in my view was never as impressive as MR the right winger, cutting in field and allowing more goal scoring opprotunities.
I think the Cherries have spent £500k on an average left winger, who they are now desperatye to shoehorn into their team.

Is it me or is Miller playing a darn sight better since PDC left the club ?
Very pleased to hear the match today, couldn't make it, up all night with things. An old buddy of mine from Coventry said, on the phone, he went and saw the best visiting club this season and reckoned we played some good stuff and were very worthy of the win. His words, "You should have been out of sight before half time, we were awful".
Very pleased to hear both Rooneys did well. I keep saying it, play Raffa up front, he is a striker, why go out and buy what we already have. Our two do not work as a pair, and until they do their tally will suffer, they need to feed off each other and its not happening.
I see Paynter got one as well.
Yep Charlie's strike was pretty impressive and Barn Door nodded one in for Donny.
Miller did have a better game but then he like them all could hardly play worse than against Bury. So too early to gauge whether its down to post traumatic PDc disorder.
Your mate was right we should have been out of sight by half time but Wilma once again put on her stilettos instead of boots lol! Good job HE stopped cross dressing second half and scored.
On the FL show the Cov interim manager agreed they were second best.
Hope the digestive problems improve Wiz.
The guy on the Beeb said CA's effort was from 25 yds, I thought it was even further out than that.

Problem is most of the decent players available for loan will soon all be snapped up so KM needs to get a move on. I will be at Coventry today but am not too optimistic unless Ferry is back and our forwards find their shooting boots! Coventry's home form is not too good so with about 3,000 of us behind the lads you never know? Would be nice to have some stability now. Is there any chance we could get Caddis and Benson back? Caddis could play right midfield and Benson certainly is a better scorer than any of our current strikers!
LR decided to arrogantly belittle my post and asked if I also wanted Connell and Smith back as well. My point was that Benson puts away a higher % of his chances than our current strikers, something that was more than proved yesterday by Williams! As I said LR you are a liar coming on here trying to distort the point I was actually making. You are pathetic M8!

Promotion is definately in our own hands and although our away games are difficult I think we have more chance of winning them than we would if they were at home.
I think this is supported by the best performances, except Tranmere, coming away from the County Ground. We have also secured more points away than at home, in one game less.
I have mentioned a few times that our defence will get us up and, bar the Thompson error, it was proved again yesterday (4 shots all game). If, big IF, we score 2 goals a game from now on we should win about 90% (10) of the remaining matches.
Very important now to learn to move the buses that are likely to be parked at the CG. I think it is a must that we score first in these games and force the opponents to slowly open up and allow us to play the football we know we can. The games we have lost this season at the CG have been muggings, parked bus, pressed high and caught on the break.
Finally, absolutely made up for Darren yesterday. Fitting that he scored the winner and the celebration showed just how much he cares for the team he is playing in. My player of the season.

I'm only looking forward which is why it's a no to Benson for me - wanted BWP but hopefully KM knows of someone we don't (like Cassidy when he came out the blue) to fire us as we do need another as our conversion rate is not good enough and has cost us points (ala Hartlepool when we should have been out of sight)
Lets bring on rumour and counter rumour as to who KMac will bring in this week to bolster the squad.
I thought I read that the Pack and Green deals were not dead. Thise two would be great, and perhaps another forward, although with time under a new coach our existing strikers may start firing.

Think the criticism is a little harsh. Yes he does miss, and quite a few, but how many of those chances did he create himself through his pace and skill.
His inclusion in the team alone forces teams to defend deeper.

I don't go in for this 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-3-2 stuff. Gets a bit daft. There are broadly three areas - defence, midfield and attack!
That said, McCormack did start a bit deeper, but when it became clear that Coventry were just going to hoof it up to Clarke, he played more orthodox centre midfield and grew in influence in the second half.
With two ball winners in centre midfield you could see McDonald urging Roberts to stay on his wing. Another example of McDonald's tactical flexibility was that Rooney and Roberts did swap wings when they were both on the pitch - something you never saw under PDC.

I'm hopeful that this week we will see some loans coming in, perhaps not yet ready for the premier league but easily good enough for this level, especially up front and in mid field.
Moving on from that I am also hopeful of seeing more of Louis Thompson and others coming on for short periods when we have games sewn up. I can see Bodin and SuperMac working well together and am sure that the youth will see more help and funding now, a different picture than before but it may yield some worthwhile rewards.

We were probably the last people to leave the stadium after the game and stayed near the tunnel to watch the warm downs. The whole squad were out on the pitch as well as the subs. The subs were shuttle running and the players who played were going through various stretching exercises.
Cov's players who actually played were not out only the unused subs.
My Mates kids were also with me and as the players were coming off the pitch we applauded them and all came over to sign autographs. Lots of great banter between them. My Mate who is not a real football fan was overwhelmed by how the players were with our kids.
Chatted to quite a few of them. A few comments. Wardy and Tommy Miller were happy and felt that made up for the Tuesday's disappointment. Robbo came across a really nice guy but to be fair they all did.
Williams made me laugh and said he wanted to get home to watch his goal of the season but reflected on his missed chances. It was nice to be able to say that his pace was ripping through their defence and he appreciated the support.
Final comment from me and well worth commenting on was for the Cov fans sat around me. I thought we have some tw*ts who constantly get on the players backs during games (never can understand why supporters moan at players during the game as it only has a negative effect). However their players were nervous, I noted a couple of times where 2 of their lads came into some nasty verbal stick by a few moaners and it was clearly getting to them. We often forget that these players are still very young.
This actually played into our hands yesterday and I mentioned that and our fitness to a few Cov fans and made a comment that it doesn't suprise me why their away form is better than their home form.
Therefore by all means get frustrated by support and encouraging is better than calling a player and 'fing useless so and so and shouting you are s**t.

All sounds like a positive midfield and if we play to OUR strengths then the away games at Brentford, Yeovil, Doncaster and Sheff Utd shouldn't hold any fears for our teams.....especially as we play better against footballing teams

They need to work as a pair, on receiving the ball, doing some hard work and then setting it up for the other to get a clearer shot in, not getting the ball run like mad drawing the goalie and then trying to beat him, lure the goalie and punt it to the unmarked( by the goalie) man who has a clearer shot.
Rowlands and Mayes worked as a pair, which is why they were so good, and not really since then have we had a true partnership at the front working as a pair. Hopefully SuperMac will get them working more cohesively and the rate of return on chances, we will see more converted.

BTW did you mean "Articulate" when you were comparing Kmac and Paolo, a few may disagree that Paolo was good with words :-)

Laz/Carnegie thank you for replying re how opt he midfield was set up yesterday. Slightly concerned they don't match!
Anymore insights gratefully received although I'll be able to see with my own eyes Saturday!
Just to confuse further, I saw the formation as 4-3-3.

With Devera back and Macca now a CM again (plusFerry back) do we need Pack now???

Also with L Rooney back in the fold do we need Green???

Certainly need a forward to ensure our dominance return the points

If just one of those came in I'd be happy

Winger after would be next choice for me
With the 2 Rooneys that gives enough cover for forwards and wide men.
I still think we are good enough to win the league as win the away games at Sheffield, Doncaster, Yeovil & Brentford job done.

I'm still not convinced of the need for another striker. We're the division's joint top scorers; Collins and Williams are 6th and 8th. That paints a pretty good picture. Of course there's no denying that those two miss a few. But who doesn't? Maybe more to the point, is anyone better likely to be available and want to join us?
I'd take Leon Clarke though!
Also, I'd like t see what KMac can get out of them before we go rushing in.
Think the criticism is a little harsh. Yes he does miss, and quite a few, but how many of those chances did he create himself through his pace and skill.
His inclusion in the team alone forces teams to defend deeper.
2 ways to improve Williams. Play him wide (possibly continuing a 4-3-3 set up) and work on his confidence. Probably in that order.

The on going debate over Williams and Collins will always divide opinion to a point, but has anybody considered, they don't play as a pair, they play as individuals, and as long as they continue in that vein they will not convert as many chances as they should.
Happy days.
Its been a funny old week since that press conference, you remember the one many berated as underwhelming, we have certainly come a long way since then, in just a few days. Maybe those who were not quite as happy as they hoped have brightened up a bit since, c'mon chaps, a new dawn, we've had plenty but this one actually does feel good, with the added bonus of the players seemingly enjoying what is going on around them. I had never heard of Fitton for example before he came and still don't really know his full background
.
Jed had said we have 2 backers in the background and more interested in joining due to the board "model" - which the FL were also happy with
.
Does knowing their names really change anything?
.
Do any of us know Fitton's wealth - must be significant as he wrote £3m off last month but we couldn't put a finger on it
.
I guess the main thing we should be interested in is the "model" itself
.
We have snippits - concerts, improved sponsorship and operational cost cutting - but there must be more to it than that
.
Surely a piece on this is more beneficial to us fans than the names of who is prepared to fund the club this year and next until that "model" is up and running

I still think the goal was an own goal looked at it many times, but will give him the benefit of the doubt.
But must not get away from the fact that we were brilliant and willo was part of the winning team and did get the vital goal to get us back in it (according to reports).
Kmac got the subs right also which pleased me more, Adam Rooney has come on leaps and bounds.
Onwards and blow away with our support.
They all count I guess and if he he had nor been there he wouldn't have scored, definitely not an own goal, but bizaar how his back heel managed to beat their 3 defenders.

Williams has tremendous pace and decent skill which manufactures the chances for himself. Trouble is he is so quick others have trouble keeping up with him and he has to go alone.
We had a winger under Wilson who I first saw against West Brom in the pre-season friendly. First impressions were WOW his pace is fantastic. He proved a huge disappointment however as although he had pace he forgot to take the ball with him most of the time.
Williams is far better and could definately improve his finishing but he is, to me. the one player that could really excite a crowd.
When I started watching Town we had a player that is rightly revered by older fans but being quite young when I saw him my memories of him were the breaks from the halfway line, into the box and round the keeper - goal.
I remember, following his transfer to Crystal Palace, I was allowed to stay up to see his debut because it was on MOTD (was it two, three games only then ?) and because he scored exactly that kind of goal.
Williams reminds me a bit of Don, what he needs is to have a chat with the master about the finish :-)

Agree with you also we don't need to include Luke as part of the Pack deal, let's get him in, I'd rather see Navarro go there as a bargaining chip, maybe a tad unfair as he's been injured along time, but apart from the Brighton game haven't seen enough from him to convince me he can ever be first choice midfielder.
The issue with the Pack deal it was to take L Rooney in exchange plus cash from us but I would rather keep Rooney who will really benefit from K Mac I feel and bet we soon see the Rooney that PDC bought here but soon sent him to Coventry. And at Coventry he appeared and made Wardy's goal. Pack will be a great signing still and injuries will always play there part so better to have strength in the middle. If we keep L Rooney then we do not need another winger as this is like a new signing anyway. Mind you I would not mind Hollands back though and he was really great for us. Goalscorer's are like gold dust but as others say we are the top scorer's in the division so not doing that bad but do feel we could put games to bed sooner. Darren Bent will do KM.
I also agree with you about Holland, I wonder just how far off he is with his recovery, would love to see him here next season regardless of which div we will be playing in.
Think you are a bit optimistic if you think Darren Bent would come here, but one never knows, personally I wouldn't mind if Chris Martins came back if he has maintained his fitness, he only scored one, but he did so much more, it gave the dymanic duo loads of opportunities from which they could get away from bullying defenders.
As a final comment, another poster mentioned Leon Clarke, Good shout, but I don't think for a minute we would ever take him back, neither would he want to come here, but I would say he is a very good striker and has taken a fair amount of undeserved stick. Yes, agreed he behaved badly on the night of the Saints game as did Delotelli for winding him up, but he has kept his side of the story to himself and as we all know there are always 2 sides. I would like for our fans to draw a line on their dislike of him and as long as he continues not to score against us and puts a few past the likes of the Donnie and the Blades lets give him our full support.

I have often thought as you if only Willo could shake his hips like the Don, he wouldn't be trying to hit it as hard as he can and more often than not wide, over or straight at the goalie. When the Don went one on one it was 9 times out of 10 a goal and why because he was as good with his left as he was with his right, the only thing he was not great at was with his head, (just like Jimmy Greaves)
i think the problem nowadays, not just with Willo, is players are too one footed, even in the premiere league you see it, they have to get the ball on to the one they feel confident on and more time than not, they screw up.
With our own lads, who in the team is comfortable with both their left and right, not Willo or the Rooneys that's for sure. all the boys need have a training session where they are not allowed to use their natural foot, that should be fun to see. lol

I hope you had a look at the video on the link I posted. Not the game I remember but similar. I was 11 in those days and the memories are not as good as they might have been if I was older but a fantastic goal.

Rowlands and Mayes worked as a pair, which is why they were so good, and not really since then have we had a true partnership at the front working as a pair. Hopefully SuperMac will get them working more cohesively and the rate of return on chances, we will see more converted. Game on.Wiz, I think you make a very good point about striking partnership but I don't think Collins and Williams are compatible like that. You normally need a target man and a foil - the classic Rowlands/Mayes set up. Whilst Collins is a sort of target man, Williams is neither. He's more of a striker winger. Only time I've seen a striker winger really work well when Barnes and Blissett both played that role for a while at Watford.
