Dave Cox makes progress for Swindon
SWINDON fought off the physical challenge of Windsor to win 26-13 and earn their fifth successive victory in South West 1 East.
The Greenbridge Road side went into the game with revenge on their minds having narrowly lost the reverse fixture earlier in the season, but tries from Adam Westall, Ben Saville, Jordan Sheppard and an outstanding individual effort from Nick Warren secured the win.
Second-row Dave Cox was pleased his side were able to pick up the win, but believes they were capable of an even bigger victory.
“We narrowly lost at their place earlier in the season thanks to a dodgy drop-goal, but to be honest when we were walking off the pitch we probably thought we could have won by a lot more,” he said.
“We could have put 50 or 60 points on them, and although we won there was a hint of disappointment around afterwards.
“That shows the talent we have in the squad, because we managed to win and not put play like we usually do.”
In Southern Counties South, Supermarine travelled to leaders Devizes and were on the end of a 78-5 defeat, while Wootton Bassett lost 26-17 at Wimborne.
Lightning struck twice for Swindon College Old Boys in the Berks/Bucks & Oxon Premier, as Risborough failed to fulfil the two teams’ match for the second time this season.
As with the reverse fixture in November, Risborough were unable to field a front row and Old Boys were awarded the points.
