SWINDON TOWN: Former coaches wait on wages

UNPAID: Fabrizio Piccareta UNPAID: Fabrizio Piccareta

SWINDON Town's former assistant boss Fabrizio Piccareta has revealed he and other members of Paolo Di Canio's coaching staff are owed overdue wages by the club.

Piccareta told BBC Sport that the club's new owners had promised all outstanding money would be paid by the end of February after Di Canio's staff resigned in the aftermath of the 3-1 win at Tranmere on February 19.

"We have received nothing," said Piccareta.

"We worked until the day we resigned publically. We met (general manager) Steve Murrall and were t)old that on the last day of February we would have been paid but we have not heard anything.

"The new consortium say they want to make incredible stuff for Swindon, but they must end any outstanding situations.

"We gave back all out stuff, mobile phones, laptops etc, and were then told we would be paid soon, but so far we have not received anything."

So if you resign you get paid?
Of course they would be paid for work done until they resigned.

If any departure is done amicably, ie hand in notice, work notice and then say thanks goodbye, then all payemts are paid on the day of departure.Well thats the way I've done it in the past.

Resign, walk out, leave employers in the lurch, then expect to be messed about. It may not be right, but again, thats the way I've done it.

But then again 250k is a lot of money to find when your trying to sort out other important matters so the club can operate

I remember someone saying at a delicate stage in the takeover negotiations that they couldn't say too much as they didn't want to blow their cover but would reveal who they were as soon as the takeover was sorted. Well the takeover been sorted for weeks now & still you hide behind the identity of 'Guv' which says a couple of things really, 1. You know jack sh1t & 2. You are a FRAUD

He has a point Guv - well two actually!!

Come on, spill the beans then, or will you just come up with your usual which just confirms that Super Reds is correct?

KojaktheWarg says...

What we on the street see is a coaching team simply walk out a day after a game. I respect their reasoning but it would have been nice if they had work a little longer whilst the dust from the takeover settle. It sort of leaves the club with a problem if they resign overnight. If they get in new staff straight away, presumably the club are then paying two lots of wages (assuming holiday pay is due to the departing group) ? And this at a time when money is tight. Perhaps this is how football contracts are written - ie no requirement to give a notice period. I dont know.

What is acceptable of course is that the new owners need to prioritise and examine payments that are due, and this in itself causes a delay as they already have a zillion documents to sort out after a takeover.

So personally, I am not surprised of delays.

sp1dersw3b says...
6:32pm Thu 7 Mar 13

Depending on their contracts they should be paid up to at least the date of resignation - 19th or 20th February - IMO only.

Didn't someone here once suggest the backroom staff's salaries were paid direct from/via PDC?

Too many stories like this are about at the moment, all the bills need to be cleared now before the FL regain their interest in STFC, unless they already have!

Yes, I think we're probably all fed up to the back teeth with it. But I'm glad we are getting to know about it.

The thing that puzzles me is that I would have expected the new owners to want to be seen hitting the ground running, i.e. showing us that they mean business by getting these things sorted out quickly. If there's a good reason for not paying these people, then why not tell us? And if there is a good reason for the other "financial issues" that prevent us signing players, why not tell us that too?

Oh dear, getting a little hard up are we? Welcome to the fan's world!!
I wondered when Team Italia walked out with such small loyalty and after such bad advice from their wonderful agent, whether they would walk into another job.
My thoughts then and now are NO!
First they walk out. Then they threaten legal action. Now they complain publically trying to stir things up.
Pay them off then it's - Ciao e buona fortuna - to them and good riddance from me.
And as for Mr PS, the amazing agent, seems like the bridges have been burnt and chickens will come home to roost and roost and roost, cos not many are going to take a punt on this flapping flock for sure.

Agree LR. It would be wrong to judge anyone before the club has spoken about it. But there's judging and there's feeling uneasy. And some of us feel uneasy.

Psychedelic Syd says...

We just need to pay up and forget about them, deduct the broken locks money and have done with it. Need to close the whole chapter, meet our moral obligations and move on. I know they walked out but two wrongs don't make a right. They should be paid up until the time they left as anyone else would expect and indeed be legally entitled too.

It is of concern however that these financial niggles are cropping up - it bodes ill for us managing to get any loan players in when there's stuff like this kicking off and Shrewsbury claiming unpaid money. Surely the new guys can stump up what must be small beer when they are talking about a budget of £4.5m for Kevin M? It is mighty strange, hope they act quickly to settle our debts - we can do without that kind of reputation. I share Den's unease; this shouldn't be happening.

Oi Den! says...
9:05pm Thu 7 Mar 13

Syd, I don't think there were any broken locks - they used keys and codes. That's why the locks and codes were changed. I think a certain dread hand has its fingerprints all over the departure of PDC and his staff - and it amounts to poor advice.

I think that the situation has 2 questions.

When he/they resigned who was due to be paying their wages,as Jed nogotiated a deal for PDC,s Friday to Mondays 5pm deadline.

So before the renegotiated contract, who was responsible for their wages???

One thing's certain,he doesnt like being out of the limelight.

Has any club come running for his services???

Still don't know why some of you are pressing the panic button for loan signings, as jed said KMAC will wait at least a week to evalute his new team. Then its up to KMAC to decide if any new loan players might be needed.

Guv.

You must tell them who you are,as i'm not letting on. Usual at the Sun Inn after the match on saturday.
Someone might just twig on who Guv really is, but it's not easy.

If they don't want to stir trouble for the Club, then why are they bleating to the BBC about a matter that they should deal directly with the Club over?
If STFC owe them, then talk to them to find out what the delay is about.
Typical of PDC's lot - just want to get their names in the press and drag us to the gutter with them.
I sincerely hope none of them get another job in the English football leagues as they don't deserve it!

Daz, it's the club that employed them, so it's the club that has to deal with it. It doesn't matter who the owners are/were. What if the club was to receive an unexpected cash windfall related to the Black days? We wouldn't want it passed on to the old owners. We'd say "thanks very much" and stick it in the bank.

Agreed. What's more the manner of their departure was to say the least "unusual". I wouldn't be surprised if Jed isn't having the contracts examined by some lawyers before paying anything.

SirReg says...

It all depends on the contracts. If they were required to give notice and didn't do so, they might be owed nothing. Indeed, they might owe the club money in lieu of notice. They behaved pretty shabbily, so who knows?

I re-iterate,this club has been blighted with bad management for as long as I can remember.I had doubts about this lot coming in and it is apparent that none of them have a clue in respect of their liabilities.
Irrespective of the excessive wages-you would have thought that the first thing they would have done is to pay PDC and CO what they are due and say au revoir, thus avoiding any more adverse.Oh no,these chancers, like many gone before have yet to convince me they are financially sound and astute enough to take over the club.My advice to them is to pay what is owed before making budget promises to the manager.Look in the accounts, wages and salaries and sort it.If it is unclear then sack the accounts office. They are employed to make sure it is clear.Personally I think there is a huge deficit-much larger than we are led to believe and more S**t about to drop on SN1.
Great result last week and Brentford is a crunch game.COYR'S
