SOUTHERN LEAGUE: Marine boss Webb targets front man
6:00am Friday 8th March 2013 in Sport By Ned Payne
Marine boss Dave Webb
DAVE Webb wants to bring in a forward to aid Supermarine's promotion push out of Division One South & West.
The South Marston side currently occupy third place in the standings, but with top spot still a possibility and the play-off places very much in the balance, boss Webb wants options available to him should injuries take hold.
Favoured front pairing Ash Edenborough and Josh Parsons have 32 league goals between them this campaign but as the inexperienced Josh Fowler is the only backup, Webb is keen to being in another fresh face.
“We're looking to maybe bring in one more player,” he said.
“We're alright at the back and in midfield so if it was anywhere it would be more of a forward option, but there's no names yet.
“It's great that Ash and Josh have forged such a great partnership, but if we get one or two injuries to our front players then we could be struggling for cover.
“We've got wide players that can play up there so it's not like we haven't got options, but being a little bit selfish, I'd like to strengthen.”
Marine travel to Tiverton this weekend hoping to extend their winning run to five games.
Harry Etheridge is suspended while Webb is sweating on the fitness of Sam Morris, Jordan Roberts and Danny Allen.
Mani Randhawa was forced off with a thigh problem in the 2-1 win over Paulton in midweek and is a doubt.
Elsewhere, Cirencester have injury concerns ahead of skipper Jamie Reid ahead of their visit to Abingdon tomorrow.
The influential midfielder suffered a leg injury in the 0-0 draw against Merthyr in midweek. An X-ray revealed no break and boss Brian Hughes will want his man back sooner rather than later.
In the Southern Premier, Chippenham have launched a bid to re-sign striker Lewis Powell from rivals Frome.
The 23-year-old, who left Hardenhuish Park to join Frome last summer, is the Robins’ top-scorer with 11 goals and has been the subject of a seven-day approach by his former employers.
Powell hit 26 league goals for the Bluebirds in 2009/10 but broke his leg in January last year. He has been blighted by a groin injury this term.
Chippenham will aim to correct a win-less league run that stretches back to December 1 when they travel to Arlesey this weekend.
