SWINDON TOWN: We must sort out home form - Ferry

LIFT: Simon Ferry celebrates his goal LIFT: Simon Ferry celebrates his goal

MIDFIELDER Simon Ferry admitted Swindon need to sort their home form out between now and the end of the season if they are to stay in the hunt for promotion to the Championship.

The Scot’s fourth goal of the season had looked to have secured all-three points in Saturday’s clash with Walsall, but James Paterson popped up to head home as the clock struck 90 following a flowing counter-attack from the visitors.

Ferry admitted it was two points dropped, and insisted Town need to turn things around at the County Ground having only picked up three points from a possible 12 in their last four home games.

“It is definitely two points dropped because if you want to win the league you can’t afford to be conceding goals like that,” he said.

“All the boys are frustrated and a lot of things have been said after the game. It’s hard to put a finger on why we have been struggling at home, away we have been better than at home which is unusual, and we need to get our home form better because it’s teams who do well at home which go up.

“We played Preston at the wrong time after they got a new manager and Hartlepool were fighting for their lives (both 1-1 draws), and I don’t think you ever get an easy game in this league. Teams are fighting for their lives and want to get in the play-offs, so it’s never going to be easy.

“Some teams come and get behind us and play on the counter-attack, which seems to work for them. In patches we played good football against Walsall without making clear-cut chances, but we didn’t really create too much even though we had a few shots.”

Ferry was in the right place at the right time to pounce after keeper Aaron McCarey failed to hold Adam Rooney’s shot, but was not happy with his own performance.

“I was terrible before the goal but I played it to Roons and he has had a shot, and the goalie had a bit of a nightmare and I hit it with my left foot. I didn’t really play well and I don’t know why.

“I try to get in the box and luckily a few of them have gone in this season, although I wasn’t really able to miss with some of the chances.”

Perhaps we can't play on a perfect pitch.
Just a thought
