HORSE RACING: A nice Touch for Henderson
6:00am Monday 11th March 2013 in Sport
WINNER: Nicky Henderson
LAMBOURN trainer Nicky Henderson warmed up nicely for the Cheltenham Festival at the weekend as Close Touch romped home by 12-lengths at Sandown.
Close Touch, owned by Her Majesty The Queen and ridden by Barry Geraghty, took the European Breeders’ Fund paddypower.com National Hunt Novices Handicap hurdle Final, with ease.
Henderson said: “He’ll be chasing next year. Handicaps are out, but I wouldn’t mind running him again and perhaps he could go to Aintree.”
Henderson achieved the “impossible” at last year’s Festival when he trained seven winners over the four days to become the most successful trainer of all-time at the showpiece meeting.
He heads into this year’s Festival with a heavyweight team spearheaded by the likes of Bobs Worth, Long Run, Sprinter Sacre, Simonsig, My Tent Or Yours, Binocular and Oscar Whisky.
