Hall added to holding company board
SWINDON Town’s holding company has a new director.
Gregory Hall was appointed to the Seebeck 87 Ltd board on Friday, joining current Town chairman Jed McCrory, general manager Steve Murrall, commercial director Gary Hooper and Callum Rice.
Hall has a background in carbon credit trading and currently holds directorships at City Project and UCS Trading, amongst others.
A request has been made to the club to provide an outline of Hall’s role at the County Ground, but as yet that has not been forthcoming.

By contrast, McCrory holds 23 directorships, Hooper five and Murrall four.
Seebeck 87 was formed with just £1 of share capital - the absolute minimum for a limited company, and probably not even enough for all the directors to own even one share each unless the shares are valued at 5 pence each or something.
The company doesn't have to file accounts until September 2014, probably because as it was formed in December 2012 they chose a September year-end date so that by September 2013 that would only have traded for nine months, hence postponing the date by when they have to file annual accounts until 21 months from formation, so don't expect any insights soon.
All of these 'directors' are apparently paying themselves a salary from Swindon. If the overall budget is "the same" as with Black/Di Canio, yet there is no money for anything, then you wonder how much they are paying themselves.
I hope I am wrong, and I hope all comes good, with backers rather than bloodletters, but until more information is revealed by the new owners it's easy to see why so many people are sceptical. Very sceptical.
The new owners' communication is very poor, but that's probably because they don't want to tell us.
I would like to see the Football League be more open with supporters - perhaps through each club's Trust - as to what the due diligence process revealed when a takeover happens, what the strategy is that they approved, as well as why embargoes are put in place. Because otherwise as fans we are helpless to watch on, unsure whether our club is being milked dry, or managed by people with good intentions but no experience.
It's OK the Football League wanting to bring in more financial fair play regulation, but I think they also have a moral obligation to football fans generally to share with us what is happening.

It's all very well people saying "clubs don't need to tell the fans what's going on", but look at the posts on the other thread today. There are loyal supporters who've decided not to go tonight because they feel disillusioned by the lack of openness from the club. I fear that is just the tip of the iceberg. If the likes of McCrory are only prepared to speak in riddles to the fans, maybe it's time for the Football League to change its policy.

I think these developments at board level are very worrying.
When you consider the plight of Glasgow Rangers, it's a macrocosm of football and Western Governments. Mortgaging the future by stealing tomorrow's revenues to pay for the ambitions of today. Nothing new there, and the new owners have said they want to prevent that happening. But are they? Maybe by selling players in the summer and not renewing contracts they will be.
Among other things Rangers used future season ticket sales to pay for players' wages in the present, and we all know what happened next. I would be very reluctant in investing money in a season ticket for next year, if it could prove to be worthless.
All the more reason for the new owners to be transparent about the finances now - and not in eighteen months' time when Seebeck 87 next has to file annual accounts.
- How much debt is still in the club? (Fitton's debt?)
- What are the 'unseen events' that are keeping the club in embargo?
- How much is this ever-increasng circle of board members paying themselves?
- How on earth do they hope to maintain this season's budget at the same level as it was under Black/PDC?
- Who, if anyone, is backing the club financially?
- Are they looking to sell on the club to new investors, and over what timeframe?
If they don't answer some of these questions, I don't blame season ticket holders for keeping their hands in their pockets.

Is Mr Hall bringing added value to the board, or is it just another salary and free seats for his mates? I'll be pleased if it's the former.

Started with land banks - where companies buy cheap brownfield sites, sell plots of it to gullible investors with the promise of a fast buck when the land gets full planning permission - which, of course, it never does.
Investor's money than miraculously disappears.
The scammers have now moved on from this as the regulatory heat got turned up and are now applying their sordid minds to to this carbon credits con.
As a football club generates a fair amount of cash - matchday sales, season ticket sales, player transfers etc) it would be a prime target for lowlife scum

I do not believe our current set of investors have got involved for the 'love of football'. They have surely got into it to make a return. What is unclear is whether it is a short term gain of being paid large amounts for their involvement with STFC or a long term one where they benefit through the move away from the County Ground and a new ground. Jed's judgement must be questioned whether he should be running a multi-million pound community asset given the appointment of this particular Director. As other posters have mentioned the Carbon company Gregory Hall is a director of is associated with dubious characters that have had other companies shut down by the High Court (in the public interest) and City Property has just issued a dissolution notice - www.duedil.com list a summary as 'City Project Limited was incorporated on 28 Oct 2008. The company's status is 'Dissolution Notice Issued', with one director. Gregory Hall is City Project Limited's sole shareholder. They have no known group companies. City Project Limited have total assets of £0 plus total liabilities of £164,889. Their book value is £-28,322, and the value of their shareholders' fund is £-28,322'. I really wanted this to work out so we could focus on the players not back room issues but I am really concerned. Apologies for the lengthy post but I hope it is useful.

I am an avid reader of the forums on this site but a first time poster. This article has prompted me to register as a contributor as I am concerned by the stories emanating from our club. I have supported the team since I was 8 and have watched Swindon on a regular basis from that point onwards. During this time we have seen a number of irresponsible owners becoming involved in the club for their own obvious gain. Whilst I can't support how Andrew Black exited the club you have to acknowledge that he put a lot of his own money into it and actively supported one of the most exciting and interesting periods I have known. Without this cash we would potentially not have survived and would probably not be in the play off positions in League 1. However, the rush job that has ensued to get new owners in has created the potential for people to access a well established asset and exploit it for their own gain.

I have reluctantly come to this same conclusion. There is no evidence to the contrary that they are noting but a bunch of chancers, out to extract from the club and the situation whatever they can.
If I were a season ticket holder (and I'm not, I live in London) I would NOT be renewing it right now as you may never see your money again. That does not mean you are not supporting your club - it means you want to see where your club is first.
We all feel a bit helpless here, and I fear that the dreaded 'A' word may rear its ugly head again in the not-too-distant future. I have a very uncomfortable feeling about this new lot, and would be happy to see them out of Swindon as soon as possible. I am worried they will leave the club in a far worse position than in which they found it.
It would be good to hear a bit more from Andrew Black as to what financial position he did leave the club in and what debts remained etc. but we're unlikely too and it ain't going to make much difference anyway. Just would like to know.
Meanwhile I don't see any harm in lobbying the Football League (i.e. people write to them). In this brave new world of financial fair play, we do need openness from them so that the fans have a better understanding of what is going on with their club.

It wasn't that long ago this season (after the Shrewsbury game in the snow) that I walked back to the station disappointed we only scored 2 goals !! and won 2-0.
This was the peak of this season, in footballing terms, "we were on fire" and like and unstoppable train.
So what has changed, virtually everything. Our Management team - gone. Our Boardroom team - gone and once again Mr T Embargo hangs over our club.
.....but we survive (for now).
To be honest I don't get carried away anymore as when ever things look great on the outside and from a Supporters perspective we simply go "bump" and fall back down to earth.
All we want is to be kept informed. Surely we deserve that. We are more resilient than the average footy fan, we have had to be.
I will be renewing my season ticket before the end of the month as if nothing different is happening.........I urge any member of the Board if they are reading this just be honest with us and say it as it is.

Banbury United owner McCrory and a group of investors are currently in the process of buying League One Swindon Town.
Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker
They are set to buy around 75 per cent of the shareholding in the County Ground club from Andrew Black.
Speaking in an exclusive live web chat with the Echo yesterday, Baker said the fact the proposed investment would have made McCrory's consortium majority stakeholders at Whaddon Road led to the club declining their advances.
We did have an approach from the consortium who are now at Swindon, but we weren't convinced and you have to be very careful," Baker said.
"You have to be very thorough with your due diligence and the fact they want to become the controlling stake holders was a problem."

Wray was brilliant in many ways but I think shares a large measure of responsibility for where we are now because of his constant acceding to PDC's requests. Black got fed up with Wray's yes-man approach to PDC and consequently wanted to replace him with a dispassionate hatchet man. Patey lived up to the role perfectly. Fitton, though, was the man who had to start the ball rolling. It's easy to say with hindsight that Malpas was a bad appointment but the only complaints about him at the time were that he was an unknown quantity. It didn't work out, but nobody knew for sure that it wouldn't. And, despite all that, if Wilson had not failed so spectacularly in 09/10 with a very good side, Fitton would have been hailed as a hero, as he was when he joined the club of course. Greer would not have gone to Brighton, who would have been a division lower than us, and we may well have established ourselves as a Championship club.

Apologies for the lengthy post but I hope it is useful.
ers come and go but now knowing this guy is involved is bad news! along with the rest of them.i will wait and see but i hope others and including myself will not support any board who are in it to line there own pockets and exploit the club and having done research into all involved it does not fill me with any confidence at all.

Strange. According to Dellam Corporate information, Hall holds only one directorship - Seebeck 87.

Hall has been made a director of the holding company - not the football club. So he won't be drawing a 'salary' as the other four are reported to be, but watch out for Diamandis-style 'consultancy' contracts with the club. Otherwise why has he joined the holding company?
The company he is CEO of - City Project - is regarded as 'High risk' and 'credit not recommended' by credit agencies. Apparently the company has 'taken advantage of exemptions under the Companies act such that accounts have not been audited or examined.'
The other strange thing is the timing. As the embargo is still in place, and supporters are concerned or angry, why would Jed and co. make this appointment now, rather than wait, if all it was going to do is alert people?
Maybe The Adver should contact our 'friends' at The Football League Paper, Chris Dunlavy and David Emery. While they got it wrong in accusing Swindon of cheating our way to the League 2 title, they do crusade against overspending and dodgy owners in football, and will have a more overall perspective. They may be interested in the latest developments here at Swindon, if we could stomach their conclusions.

If Ritchie had NOT been sold do you honestly think that the club would still be here. I don't think so.
How far will £500,000 go when you have creditors to pay. Not very far so obviously there is nothing left from that sale.
Yes, £1 is the minimum to buy a company and that is what they paid Black to buy the club along with the debts.
How far did that £500,000 go to clearing the quoted £9m debt which the new board agreed to pay. Again, if they had not cleared the debt the club would NOT still be in existence
If there were anything wrong with the current set up the Football League would NOT, I repeat NOT have sanctioned the takeover and we would be doomed to Conference football next season (not a bad idea, Salisbury City home and away :))

For god's sake just go to the Companies House website, pay the fee and look them up then there is no more

I would rather have Conference football and a stable club than stay in the Football League with cowboys in charge. And if you are going to shout the word "INDEPENDENT" at us, you might at least spell it correctly.

All of you know absolutely nothing, asking people not to buy a ST yet is a great idea, rob the club of the income, wow what a great way to avoid administration, this board have had some challenges, mainly things not paid by the old reime and having to get rid of the expense of PDC and his mob, give them a blooming chance to prove themselves, I can't say I am over the moon with whats happened so far, but come on people get a grip, dark times ahead, maybe, but I didn't stop buying a ST under the greek, what about all the years Sir seton bank rolled us, he was a Town fan pumping millions in, we still didn't have a pot to P1ss in, but thats ok because he is a town fan...
....
Let's understand what is going on first.
....
I'm not buying one until I KNOW we are out of embargo and that we look stable.
...I simply can't afford to throw good money away and will not apologise for that.

madterrier wrote:madterrier, I would have thought once Black removed his funding at the end of December then to keep within the 65% cap the club would have needed new equity to top up the original 4.5 million forecast budget. My guess is that is why the FL have stated the new owners stump up 1.2 million of equity, which it would appear they do not have. The question everyone wants answered is where are they going to get the money from if they don't have any loose change.
I don't know the legal basis upon which the Football League can demand that a £1.2m bond is paid into an account and ring-fenced but it might be a blessing in disguise of sorts. The embargo could be due to this 'unseen event' as Murrall described it, or it could be due to the club not having met the disclosure requirements for the FL to calculate whether it is within the salary cap requirement right now.

Doom mongers, gloom mongers.
First question to you is ... Have you looked at the clubs accounts for last year. I bet 99.99% have not
If Ritchie had NOT been sold do you honestly think that the club would still be here. I don't think so.
How far will £500,000 go when you have creditors to pay. Not very far so obviously there is nothing left from that sale.
Yes, £1 is the minimum to buy a company and that is what they paid Black to buy the club along with the debts.
