SWINDON Town are not about to sell Paul Caddis on the cheap, manager Kevin MacDonald has insisted.

Recent reports have linked Birmingham, where Caddis is currently on loan, with a £250,000, installment-based approach for the Scot’s full-time services - a bid MacDonald himself is unaware of.

The Robins boss stressed that the club’s valuation of the right-back is considerably more than the figure quoted in some media outlets, and he said Town would not allow the 24-year-old to leave Wiltshire for a pittance.

However, MacDonald could not commit to keeping Caddis, who has a further year remaining on his contract at the County Ground, for the 2013/14 campaign.

“I’ve not spoken to him. I’ve seen him play on television, Mark (Cooper) has seen him play live and he’s played very, very well for Birmingham City this season,” he said.

“I think part of the problem will be what league we’re going to be playing in next season. Now that he’s played in the Championship I’m sure he’d like to stay there and we hope that we can get up there and if we’re in the Championship then hopefully Paul will be happy to play for us.”

When asked about the reports of an official Birmingham offer for Caddis, he told the Advertiser: “Not that I’ve heard of, if there has it’s not gone through me. They’re obviously trying to get him on the cheap now. I think we’ll be looking for a bit more money than what they probably are wanting to pay.

“I did see the bit on the BBC website. I think it will be a little bit more than that.”

Meanwhile, neither Caddis nor Paul Benson will be available for Town in the League One play-offs, should the Robins make the end-of-season extravanganza.

Caddis’ season-long loan contract with Birmingham means he will remain a Blues player until June 30, while Benson’s deal at Cheltenham ties him to the Whaddon Road side throughout the play-off campaign.

There is one Swindon player who is eligible to feature under MacDonald should his side reach the end-of-season lottery. Midfielder Lee Cox, currently at Plymouth, will return to the County Ground at the end of the month.

“We have considered it and we have had a look but it’s only Lee Cox that would be available, we couldn’t use Paul or Paul,” MacDonald said.
