Incredibly harsh on the visitors. On another day that match would have been theirs.
Bampton smashes over! Merthyr win 3-2 on penalties.
Rewbury just squeezes under Kauppinen. 3-2 to Merthyr.
Allen slots into the right corner. 2-2.
Prosser slams home and Merthyr lead 2-1.
Wide by Taylor!
Newman sends Kauppinen the wrong way and we're level at 1-1.
Edenborough roofs it. Brilliant penalty. 1-0 Marine.
Cornwall has his shot blocked by the Marine stopper!
Keeper Kauppinen sees his penalty saved by Cutlan.
Who has got the stomach to step up then?
Onto the roof of the net. One minute of added time.
Another Merthyr corner.
Marine half-clear and then Kauppinen plucks a shot out of the air. Great composure.
Seconds left. Merthyr corner.
Kauppinen cuts out a cross that would have been a tap-in had he not intervened. He's more than made up for his error for the first goal tonight.
Bennett gets a yard clear but his shot dribbled a yard or two wide. Not long till penalties now.
Marcus Griffiths scuffs an effort straight at Kauppinen. That was about as good an opportunity as we've had in extra-time.
Marine look absolutely out on their feet and to be honest Merthyr don't look all that fresh either. Barely any chances being created.
A shot flies well over Kauppinen's bar. He'll be delighted to see that.
The tension here at Penydarren Park is incredible.
We're underway again.
The whistle has sounded. A swift break and then 15 minutes left. And maybe penalties after that.
The end of the first period of extra time is imminent.
Marine battling away here. Fair to say penalties is their best hope. A couple of near-misses for Merthyr but they still can't break through.
We are underway in extra time.
Extra time it is. And maybe penalties.
GOAL! Merthyr 2 Supermarine 2
90+4 - Prosser smashes the penalty down the middle as Kauppinen dives to his right.
90+3 - Penalty Merthyr. Etheridge has been sent off! He brought down his man as he steamed in on goal.
There will be FIVE minutes of added time.
Kauppinen makes a matchwinning save from Gary Colborne's header. Surely that's it now?
Matty Bennett comes on for Hilder. Less than three minutes left.
Ryan Newman's free kick is put back across goal by ex-Chippenham man Cornwall. It went right through a crowd of players. Unbelievable that no one knocked it in.
82 - Sub Roberts is red-carded! One of those that probably looked worse than it was. Both players went for an aerial ball and it seems the referee thought he was leading with his elbow.
80 - Garyn Preen comes on for Griffiths. That's a striker on for a full-back.
78 - Edenborough loses control of the ball and flies in on Griffiths. Debatable whether he got the ball or not but he is yellow-carded anyway.
Cracking block from Curtis to deny a shooting opportunity.
76 - Aaron Cornwall comes on for Ryan Prosser.
Bampton takes a whack and then lands awkwardly in midfield after going in for a header. He looks pretty uncomfortable but he's going back on.
Absolutely frantic out there now. We've still got a good 18 minutes left.
Kauppinen makes a superb claim and stays down for a while. He's OK now.
GOAL! Merthyr 1 Supermarine 2
67 - Brilliant floating free kick into the box from Taylor and Edenborough helps the ball on with his head and it nestles in the bottom right corner. Cutlan was not getting that.
66 - Ben Whitehead is well-placed on the left corner of the box but crashed well over the bar.
Really is anyone's game now. Getting slightly more stretched.
63 - Marcus Griffiths comes on for Andrew Thomas.
Chris Taylor seizes on the ball and tries to lob Cutlan, but his effort doesn't have quite enough height.
A cross drops onto the top of the Marine goal.
56 - Cracking save from Kauppinen from a Merthyr counter-attack. The hosts look the more likely right now.
51 - Nice build-up play by Marine ends with Edenborough firing wide. He just couldn't quite get his right boot round it.
50 - Jordan Roberts is coming on for Dean, who unfortunately cannot continue.
47 - Dean is down in a heap. Kris Leek went in late and has been booked.
46 - Seconds in Traylor hits a fresh air shot when he should have put away a teasing cross. Great chance.
The second half s underway.
I fancy Matty Bennett will be deployed for the final 20 minutes here. Merthyr's centre-backs are not the quickest but Bennett is.
A great second half in prospect here.
GOAL! Merthyr 1 Supermarine 1
45+1 - Parsons crashes a penalty low into the left corner after Edenborough was hauled down by Rewbury. Edenborough was trying to follow up after Parsons hit the woodwork. Rewbury could quite easily have been sent off then after having been booked already. Moments later, the half-time whistle goes.
43 - Rob Dean's header smacks off the base of the post, hits the diving Cutlan and stops dead. Seconds later Merthyr charge up the other end and the ball is cut back to Harris, but with the goal gaping, Bampton gets a challenge in and the ball goes behind.
Jamie Rewbury has been handed a yellow card for hoofing the ball right out of the stadium after referee Adam Penwell blew his whistle. Chris Taylor's free kick beats everyone and bounces just past the far post.
40 - Ryan Newman cuts inside Danny Allen on the edge of the area but lashes his left-footed shot the wrong side of the right post.
36 - Yellow card for left-back Alun Griffiths for his lunge on Parsons in midfield. Parsons gets treatment and is OK.
GOAL! Merthyr 1 Supermarine 0
30 - It's been all Marine so far, but a horrible moment for Kauppinen has cost the visitors a goal. The keeper came haring out to deal with a long ball but it bounced over his head, and striker Ian Traylor just had the legs to beat Marine's defenders and knock into the empty net.
Hilder's deep left-footed cross looks like it's going in but the ball is palmed behind by Cutlan.
Weighty centre-back Andrew Thomas scythes down Edenborough pretty unceremoniously on the corner of the area. He's booked. Parsons leathers the free kick well over the target.
A 50-50 ball in the middle of the park and Dave Bampton comes off the worse when going in with Ian Traylor. He's carrying on.
Marine definitely have the edge in these early stages.
15 - Matt Harris' left-footed drive from the edge of the area lacks power and Kauppinen gobbles it up with ease.
13 - Craig Curtis cuts out a low ball across the box. Well-read.
12 - Kent Kauppinen is off-limits but just about manages to head a ball through the middle away from danger.
11 - A much better chance for Edenborough who shakes off his man in the box but pulls across goal following Parsons' flick. With his goalscoring record this season, you'd have expected him to bury that.
9 - Ash Edenborough blazes high from a tight angle inside the box. The ball sat up awkwardly for him.
Merthyr's keeper Giles Cutlan is wearing a fluorescent green shirt and shorts, with red socks. Daring.
We are underway at Penydarren Park.
Out come the players.
We are just under 10 minutes away from kick-off here.
Looks a fairly typical summer pitch here at Penydarren Park, pretty hard and a bit lacking in grass in places. Can't see too many players throwing themselves in for slide tackles this evening.
@nedpayne1 @supermarinefc come on marinnnnnneeee— @bulldogg00 30 April 2013
Really good atmosphere here at Penydarren Park. A great buzz about the place. Should be a good game as well and I'd be amazed if there weren't goals.
Not a bad shout that.
@nedpayne1 @SupermarineFC 2 -1 to Marine Ash to get both— @BMEhighworth 30 April 2013
Merthyr line-up: Giles Cutlan; Jon Newall, Andrew Thomas, Gary Colborne, Alun Griffiths; Ryan Newman, Jamie Rewbury, Matt Harris, Kris Leek; Ryan Prosser, Ian Traylor.
Absolutely reeling from the news Dave Turner has left Bassett. One of the most unexpected resignations I've ever come across.
Dave Webb has brought back experienced right-back Kyle Lapham in place of Harry Etheridge while injured wide man Jamie Prictor (ankle) is replaced by Danny Hilder on the right. Merthyr team news to come soon.
BREAKING NEWS: Dave Turner has decided to stand down from the managerial role at Wootton Bassett after guiding the club back into the Hellenic Premier this season.
Marine starting XI: Kent Kauppinen; Kyle Lapham, Craig Curtis, Dave Bampton, Danny Allen; Danny Hilder, Chris Taylor, Rob Dean, Ben Whitehead; Ash Edenborough, Josh Parsons.
Subs: Matty Bennett, Jordan Roberts, Harry Etheridge, Sam Morris, Jon Steedman.
The Marine players are out on the pitch. Starting line-up and subs in the next couple of minutes...
Merthyr meanwhile are searching for their third consecutive promotion. The Welsh club are run by a supporters' trust these days and have come through the ranks of the Western League.
Just to put this all into context for you, Marine were relegated from the Southern Premier last season, whereupon Highworth boss Dave Webb was handed the top job and proceeded to rebuild the squad, taking more than half a dozen members of his Elms team with him. It's fair to say those behind the scenes at the club were hopeful of challenging for a play-off place, but if anything the side has exceeded expectations.
It's a cracking evening for football here at Penydarren Park - crisp, clear and sunny. The Marine coach was around half an hour late leaving Swindon but the squad should arrive at some point in the next 20 minutes.
Hello and welcome to the Adver's live coeverage of Swindon Supermarine's trip to Merthyr in the Southern League Division One South & West play-off semi-final.
