SWINDON Primary Schools Football Association held their annual finals day at Millbrook Primary School on Saturday.

The four matches were the culmination of the Bloor Homes-sponsored knockout competitions, which involved more than 50 schools from the Swindon area.

The morning began with the girls’ cup final between holders Holy Rood and Covingham Park.

The Upham Road school lifted the trophy for the fifth successive season after winning 5-0, all the goals coming from Aimee Prinzi.

This was followed by the Plate final between Moredon Primary and Westrop Primary, which the Highworth school won 3-0.

George Howell opened Westrop’s account before Josh Kostiuk added a second and Elliott Wardroper secured the win.

The Shield final between Bridlewood Primary and Grange Junior School proved a much closer affair.

Grange took the lead through Max Wills but this was cancelled out soon after by a Daniel Franks header.

With no further score in the second period, extra-time was required.

A rasping free kick from Harry Rule gave Bridlewood a 2-1 lead and this proved enough to secure the win.

The morning finished with the cup final between Abbey Meads Primary and Wroughton Junior School.

Both sides produced excellent football but terrific defending prevented either side from scoring in the first half.

After the break, Joe Cameron’s volley gave Wroughton the lead.

Abbey Meads battled hard as they attempted to level but Wroughton held on to their slender lead to lift the cup for the second time.

“The matches were played in an excellent spirit and all those taking part should feel proud of their performances,” said Swindon PSFA secretary Steve Beale.

“The Bloor Homes finals day is the highlight of our season and each of today’s games produced exciting and keenly-contested football.”
