SWINDON Town are considering making a move for out-of-contract Watford star John Eustace.

The 33-year-old former Stoke and Coventry midfielder has yet to be offered new terms at Vicarage Road following the expiry of his deal with the Championship club, and Watford have failed to confirm whether or not an extension to his stay in north London is in the offing.

The Advertiser understands early contact has been made between Town and Eustace’s representatives regarding the possibility of a switch to Wiltshire, although any potential negotiations could be scuppered should the Hornets pitch a new contract to the playmaker.

The Robins, whose transfer policy this summer revolves primarily around youth, are keen to draft in at least one or two experienced heads to help guide the team through their League One campaign.

With senior pros Alan McCormack and Gary Roberts already having departed alongside Simon Ferry, Joe Devera, Raffa De Vita, Aden Flint and Tommy Miller - and with Darren Ward poised to join Brentford and Luke Rooney close to switching to Crawley - only a handful of players remain over the age of 25.

Eustace, who has almost 400 appearances under his belt courtesy of a long career in the Premier League and Football League, would fit the bill in that respect.
