MILES Storey admits it’s strange to find so few experienced players among Swindon Town’s ranks, but has been impressed with some of the young talent which has arrived at the County Ground.

The likes of Simon Ferry, Tommy Miller, Gary Roberts, Aden Flint and captain Alan McCormack have all left Wiltshire already this summer, and have been replaced by a host of youngsters including Massimo Luongo, Grant Hall, Jack Barthram and Alex Smith.

Storey has been impressed with what he has seen, including footage of winger Tijane he has watched on the internet, but admitted it’s a little unusual to have to class the likes of 22-year-old James Collins as one of the club’s experienced pros.

“There has been a lot of experienced lads go, but we still have Wardy, Andy Williams and James Collins, and they are the senior boys now.

“Even Collo is young as well, so it’s strange to think of him as one of the senior lads,” he said. “Nathan (Thompson) is the longest serving player now at 22, so that’s a bit strange as well.

“Some of the under 21 lads from Premier League are very good and you can tell from the way they play, and they are very technical players.

“I’ve not seen Tijane play yet, but I have watched some Youtube videos of him and he seems decent, and he seems pretty quick.”

Manager Kevin MacDonald has been playing a number of players out of position during pre-season, including strikers Paul Benson at centre-back and Collins in the middle of midfield, and while Storey would be happy to play anywhere to get in the team he is keen to stick to his regular striking role.

“I will play anywhere I’m put, and I can play on the wing like I did while I was coming up through Wolves and I know how to play there and use my pace. By trade I’m a striker, and that is where I want to play,” he said.
