SHORT films urging people to “go green” are being produced by students at the University of Bolton.

Media students will create a number of 10-minute documentaries as part of the Recycle for Greater Manchester’s Up and Forward campaign, which aims to encourage people to “waste less and recycle more”.

The films are aimed at households, short lets, students, apartments and people from different faiths and cultures.

Recycle for Greater Manchester’s project manager Sharon Leech said: “Different people and different communities have different levels of engagement with recycling.

“For example, a student or young adult might fully participate in recycling when they’re at home, but once they leave it may not be a priority.

“Greater Manchester is home to many different cultures and communities and the aim is to engage with all through Up and Forward. The documentaries will be a fundamental part of that.”

The 22-week project will be incorporated into second and third year students’ degrees.

Krishna Stott, managing director of media company Bellyfeel, which is guiding students through the process, said: “They will be doing as much as possible under their own steam.

“It is about them getting as much experience as they can and producing the best work possible for this exciting and unique brief.”

In keeping with Bellyfeel’s interactive approach to production, the students will be keeping blogs and tweeting regular updates on their progress.

University of Bolton pro vice chancellor, Professor Rob Campbell, said: “This is an excellent project for our students. It gives them hands-on, industry-level work experience as part of their degree, and research shows that is the best way to improve their employability.

“The fact that it is with such a high-calibre client on such an important project is testament to the skill level of our students.”
