Assistant manager Kevin Nugent was pleased with the young Leyton Orient team despite seeing them lose 2-1 at St Albans City this evening.

An inexperienced side, featuring a cluster of trialists, were beaten at Clarence Park but Nugent insisted there were plenty of positives to take from the friendly.

Nugent said: "It was an excellent workout in a team that probably only had five of our own players in and six trialists. It was a really good game and one that we probably should have won.

"I thought it was a good team performance and obviously some of the young players have played well. There is always room for improvement but we were pleased with the whole group considering they hardly even knew each other's name before the game."

Orient fielded a number of younger players such as Jack Sherratt and goalscorer Harrison Georgiou and Nugent is hopeful some of them will break into the first team this season.

He said: "We'll have to wait and see. We do have a small squad so they're young and just start outing out but it would be nice to see some of the home grown lads coming through but obviously it's not easy."
