SWINDON Wildcats have secured one of their biggest transfer coups of the summer by signing Swedish star Jonas Hoog for a third full season in a row.

The Stockholm-born forward has been the EPL’s top points scorer for the last two campaigns and in 2012/13 he smashed through the 100-point barrier for the first time in his career.

Hoog was keen to play at a higher level in the upcoming season but after a deal failed to materialise, he agreed to pen a deal at the Link Centre where he is a fans’ favourite.

There had been speculation of a switch to reigning league champions Guildford, but Hoog has always maintained that Swindon is the only UK club he will play for.

After rubberstamping the 26-year-old’s stay in Wiltshire, Swindon head coach Ryan Aldridge said the forward’s consistent displays made him an irresistible prospect.

“The biggest thing for me is that you know what you are going to get with him every night,” said Aldridge.

“Jonas gives you a chance to win a game and is a massive part of what we do. I’m sure everyone in Swindon wanted to have him back and so did we.

“He’s our new-age Daryl Lipsey as he’s one of our longest serving imports and hopefully he’ll be part of our club for years to come.”

Despite Aldridge’s delight at bringing in Hoog, that was tempered by the revelation yesterday afternoon that forward Matt Towe is to leave Wildcats before even stepping out on the ice.

The former Belfast man, who was announced as a Swindon signing for 2013/14 four months ago, is believed to be on the brink of being unveiled by Elite League Braehead.

It is understood that Towe will be on a two-year deal at the Scottish club which he will see out alongside an academic course.

“I’m disappointed it has happened at this time but we wish Towey all the best,” said Aldridge.
