SWINDON Croquet Club’s intermediate team ended their season on a high with a 3-2 victory over Bear of Rodborough.

The win at Moredon Playing Fields meant the intermediate side finished second in their league.

The morning session started with Mike Graham playing Bear captain Paul Mills and the former triumphed 22-17.

In the doubles, Swindon’s Bill Marner and John Small played husband-and-wife duo Crawford and Jean Alexander.

The home pair won 26-10, mainly due to Marner enjoying an inspired run of eight hoops.

Swindon might have had the better of the morning session, but Bear were soon up in all three afternoon singles games.

However, Graham pulled ahead on his final turn to beat Crawford Alexander 26-23.

In spite of defeats for Marner and Small, Swindon still secured overall victory.

Meanwhile, Swindon finished second-bottom in the North Division in the south west region.

Of their seven matches, Swindon suffered six defeats and drew the other.

The team was made up of Terry Hunt (captain), Linda Hunt, Bill Marner, Tony Mayer, Teresa Hill, Liz French, Terry Walton, Rose Mortimer, Elaine Wheeler and Neil Morrison.

Meanwhile, the club also held its recent away day in the Forest of Dean and 25 club members and friends attended.

A series of doubles games were played and Mary Bedells and Garry Douel played Liz French and Teresa Hill in the final, the former duo winning 7-5.
