WILDCATS head coach Ryan Aldridge has urged Loris Taylor to take his game to the next level after recruiting the youngster for the 2013/14 EPL season.

Taylor will be on the Swindon roster for the fifth campaign in a row and Aldridge wants the forward to add another dimension to his developing game.

While Aldridge knows that the third-liner brings a bruising physicality to Swindon’s play, he is keen that Taylor improves his points return.

The 20-year-old has never made double figures during his time in the EPL and managed just two goals and five assists in the previous campaign.

And that is a statistic that Aldridge wants to see improved in 2013/14.

Asked why he had chosen to recruit the youngster, Aldridge said: “He’s a homegrown player who makes our line-up a bit deeper.

“It’s a big year for him, he’s got to make the step from being a regular player to a top player.

“With British players, even the top-end players, it’s in their own hands how good they become.

“You get on the ice more if you deserve it and if you put points on the board, and that’s what we want from Loris.

“I’d like to think that he can do it, he’s done it all through his junior career and now he’s got to bring that to EPL hockey.”

Taylor was one of the more reserved figures in a locker room full of characters last season and while Aldridge does not question Taylor’s attitude off the ice, he admits he would favour him expressing himself more on it.

“Loris is quite quiet in the dressing room and I don’t have a problem with that, but maybe I’d like him to come out of his shell on the ice a bit more,” said Aldridge.

“He’s at the stage now where he’s got to show up and make a career for himself.

“He always was a points-scorer growing up but in our league he needs to figure out what he’s got and roll with it.”

Taylor himself revealed his happiness at the prospect of another season at the Link Centre and said he could not wait for the campaign to start.

“It’s always good to play for your home town team, there’s nothing better than playing in front of your home crowd,” said Taylor.

“Ryan has always said he wanted me back as one of the Swindon-bred players and I’m delighted to return.”
