ATHLETICS: Success for Harriers at South West Champs

SWINDON Harriers emerged with three titles and two club records at the South West Track & Field Championships at Exeter Arena.
Simon Dill won the senior men’s 800m while Morgan Gascoigne clinched double gold in the under 20 women’s long jump (5.50m) and triple jump.
DIll ran a controlled race and courtesy of a strong finish, clocking a personal best of 1:56.41.
That enabled him to add a first south west championship to the Wiltshire title he won earlier in the season.
Gascoigne set a season’s best of 5.50m in the long jump and completed the double with success in the triple jump.
Georgie McTear smashed her own club record as she won silver in the under 15 girls’ javelin, recording a throw of 30.07 which improved her mark by 45cm.
Also sending a club record tumbling was Jess Alexander who timed in at 44.09 seconds in the under 15s girls’ 300m.
Under 17 athlete Ciaran Cooper emerged with a pair of bronze medals from the 400m (51.90 seconds) and the 800m (2:04.53), the former of which was a personal best.
Jordan Large took silver in the under 15 boys’ hammer with 22.01m while under 13s competitor Ollie McTear earned bronze in the javelin courtesy of a throw of 25.32.
Competing for Gloucestershire, Abby Chaundy won silver in the under 17 100m after finishing in 12.70 seconds. Chaundy also grabbed another silver with 5.01m in the long jump.
In total Wiltshire won 22 gold medals, 13 silver and 12 bronze, with the county finishing third in the medal table out of seven south west counties.
