SWINDON Robins boss Alun Rossiter will be swapping his kevlars for cricket whites this weekend as he captains an Adver Allstars side in the White Horse CC Six a Side tournament.

Rossiter is part of a team which also includes Robins rider Nick Morris that is due to take part in the event this Sunday (August 25), raising money for both Breast Care at Ridgeway and White Horse Cricket Club in the process.

Though his true talents may be in getting Swindon to the summit of the Elite League, Rosco believes he can make an impression at the top of the bowling attack for the Allstars.

“I played a little bit at school and have occasionally been a bit of a bowler, and I wouldn’t say I am a prolific batsman or anything like that,” he said.

“I enjoy playing cricket and I always have done, and even though I’m going into this pretty rusty it’s all good fun.

“I like to have a go at most things, although I'm not always very good, but I like putting my hand to it and I will always have a go.

“I shall be having a word with the experts to make sure they are all doing what they are meant to, but I'm sure they can teach me a thing or two.

“The main thing is that it’s all for a really good cause, so it would be nice to see plenty of people there so we can all have a good laugh and a good giggle.”

Morris has declared himself to be a handy opening bowler, but Rossiter remains skeptical about the teenager’s prowess.

“Nick played quite a bit back home in Australia and is quite a good bowler apparently, but we will have to wait and see about that,” he said. “I’m going to get into him and find out a bit about his cricket, and although the Australians think they’re good at everything they’re not that clever.

“They’ve shown that this summer, and England have demolished them.”

You can watch Rosco in action at the Manor Farm ground in Broad Hinton from 10am on Sunday. Entry is free to the event, which also features a bouncy castle and face painting for the kids, refreshments and a fully licensed bar.

A charity raffle - with top prizes including signed Hampshire and Surrey shirts, tickets to Swindon Town and county cricket matches and a signed Ashes heroes bat - will also take place.
