Cats pair help GB U20s to opening win
SWINDON Wildcats duo Ollie Betteridge and Sam Godfrey enjoyed a winning start to the Cherepanov Cup with Great Britain Under-20s today.
GB made a dramatic comeback to beat Belarus Under-18s in a penalty shootout in Lithuania.
After netminder Adam Goss was pulled, goals from Ivan Antonov and Lewis Hook in the last 90 seconds drew GB level at 2-2 and they snatched victory in the shootout.
Hook and player of the match Betteridge were unable to find the target, but Josh Cook did convert and Goss was unbeaten.
Assistant coach Martin Grubb said: “The boys showed great character and it was a great feeling to win in the shootout. We are very proud of how we dug deep to win the game.”
GB face Russian side Omsk Hawks tomorrow (1.30pm BST).
