Swindon Wildcats duo finish with a defeat in Lithuania

SWINDON Wildcats duo Ollie Betteridge and Sam Godfrey’s Cherepanov Cup campaign with Great Britain Under 20s ended with a 4-1 defeat to Poland yesterday afternoon.
The duo were both in action in the game in Lithuania, which saw GB spend much of the first period on the penalty kill as they fell 2-0 down with Poland scoring twice on the powerplay.
But on a rare one-man advantage, the British youngsters pulled a goal back with Jordan Cownie and Godfrey assisting on Lewis Hook's fourth goal of the tournament.
The Great Britain youngsters’ joy was short lived as Poland hit straight back to lead 3-1 at the first intermission, and after the second period was halted by a light failure the final 10 minutes of the session were played after an ice cut.
Poland were first to pounce after the enforced break to stretch their lead to 4-1 and there was no further scoring in the final period as GB suffered defeat in their last game.
In the day's first game, Kapitan beat fellow Russian side Omsk Hawks 3-2 to win the tournament.
