HELLENIC LEAGUE PREMIER: Moloney confident Highworth can shine in Fisher's absence
ASSISTANT Kev Moloney hopes that a managerial switch at Highworth will be a seamless transition as boss John Fisher jets away to sunnier climes.
Fisher was this morning due to fly to Turkey for a fortnight of rest and relaxation, leaving Moloney to take over the Elms first team in his absence.
And Moloney feels he can carry on the good work that the pair have done so far this campaign when Highworth host Combined Counties Premier side Camberley in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase.
“It’s not a problem. I’ve been involved in quite a few clubs down the years and you do work together, it’s not just a one and two,” he said.
“What myself and John have instilled in the players in pre-season will be the message again on Saturday - just carry on doing what you’re doing.
“It’s so far so good with our form so far, but we’re not getting carried away.”
Highworth romped to a 5-0 Hellenic Premier win over Abingdon Town on Tuesday, their first clean sheet of the season and a confidence-boosting result.
However, continuing that momentum will be tough bearing in mind the Elms side are without a number of players including Matty Bennett, Tony Joyce, Kev Tate and Scott Lane tomorrow.
“It was a good win in midweek and the boys should be confident, but our problem is that we’ve got five or six players missing,” said Moloney.
“It’s a shame because the Vase is a nice competition to get through a few rounds in and it’s not ideal preparation, but we’ve still got a good squad.
“We’re looking to get a result, if you draw then you have to go down there and replay it which isn’t great because you end up losing a midweek game.”
The winners of Saturday's tie face an away match at either Frimley Green or Windsor, both of the Combined Counties Premier.
