Rossiter moves to clarify reasons for early postponement

SWINDON boss Alun Rossiter has clarified the reasons for the early postponement of last night’s Elite League clash with Lakeside at the Abbey Stadium.
Robins chiefs pulled the plug on the fixture shortly after midday following heavy overnight rain, which meant it was impossible to bring the track back into raceable condition despite improved weather conditions in the afternoon.
The match will now be staged on Thursday (7.30pm) with the Robins keen to finish their regular season with a win, whilst Lakeside need maximum points to get back into the play-off places.
Rossiter said: “We had heavy rain overnight and then further rain until just after 1pm on Monday, and the problem was there was a dog meeting at the stadium all afternoon.
“That meeting wasn’t going to finish until just before 6.30pm and it meant we simply wouldn’t have been able to get onto the track during the afternoon.
“I know we had a pleasant evening and had it been one of our normal Thursday meetings there wouldn’t have been a problem, we would have had the afternoon working on the track and it would have been okay.
“As it was, if we had attempted to go ahead with only an hour between the dogs finishing and ourselves starting, we could have ended up with similar conditions to what they had at Belle Vue.
“There’s no conspiracy theory whatsoever with switching to Thursday; in fact, we’re weakened as Nick Morris is now unavailable, although we do get Kyle Howarth back at reserve.
“We have a better weather forecast for the rest of the week so we’re looking forward to Thursday, and our intention is to win the meeting and go into the play-offs on a high.”
