STRATTON Churchway, Purton and Westlecot registered victories at the Bowls Wiltshire women’s domestic and mixed competition finals held at Devizes last weekend.
Crowned county ladies’ national triples champions in July, Stratton Churchway trio Wendy Anderson, Ellen Bolland and Janet Willis notched the benevolent triples as they blitzed Wilton 19-7.
Purton’s Julie Jones took the plaudits in the ladies’ unbadged singles, beating Mo Laws (Spencer Moulton) 17-11 in the final.
Westlecot youngsters Jake Webster and Mike Titcombe enjoyed a comfortable 20-7 success in the under 21 pairs over Chippenham brother-and-sister partnership Kara and Oliver Little.
Stratton Churchway missed out on a double as they failed to halt Box ladies’ dominance in the top 10 competition.
Box took the title for the fourth year in succession with a 4-0 success, winning the singles, pairs, triples and fours.
Highworth’s Linda Kingston had to give second best to Jean Collier (Box) in the ladies’ county champion of champions final.
Reigning champion Kingston led 11-8 at 14 ends but was defeated 21-13.
Purton lost the officers’ triples despite making a brilliant start. They led 11-3 at seven ends against Wilton but eventually lost 19-17.
