HELLENIC LEAGUE DIVISION ONE WEST: Gambling 'stunned' by Purton comeback
FAIRFORD striker Nathan Gambling admitted he and his teammates felt stunned after letting a two-goal lead slip to crash 5-2 at Purton.
The Cinder Lane side looked well on their way to victory after goals from Jack Allen and Gambling gave them a seemingly comfortable lead at half-time, but that was all to change in the second period.
An own goal gave the hosts some hope before Marcus Hall levelled matters from the spot, and another own goal from Joe Dorey gave Purton the lead for the first time with less than 20 minutes to go.
They didn’t stop there as Ash Gooch and Ryan Child both found the net to complete Fairford’s misery, and Gambling was almost lost for words when asked what went on.
“Football is a game of two halves at the end so we need to learn from it,” he said.
“We don’t really know what happened to be honest because everything just went wrong and I think we were just stunned by it really.
“They got one back which was a foul and shouldn’t have even counted, and then there was a penalty and a goalkeeping error and we just seemed to stop playing football.
“None of us really said anything although the manager said some things, but it hurt us and we need to move on and bounce back.”
Elsewhere in Division One West, Malmesbury lost 1-0 to Easingston following a second half strike from Matt Keenan.
