Ritchings targets rostrum in British Under 19 Final
PURTON teenager Darryl Ritchings is targeting a place on the rostrum from tonight’s British Under 19 Final at Coventry.
The Isle of Wight rider has been seeded through to the event at Brandon and will take on the likes of Swindon Robins rider Kyle Howarth, Adam Ellis, Max Clegg and Stefan Nielsen.
The 19-year-old made the competition a priority at the start of the season and now it has come around he believes he is capable of challenging for a top three finish.
“I used to do second halves and things at Coventry but this year I did my first competitive meeting there and I did pretty well,” he said.
“There’s a pretty good field but I am looking at the top three if I’m honest, and I guess you have to be confident going in and I will give it my best.
“I will be chuffed to bits if I can do it because it’s been my goal right from the beginning of the season - finishing in the Under 19s top three.
“I know Kyle is in there but I don’t really know who else is in there because I try not to look at my races and meetings because they’re all there to be beaten and there’s no need to try and beat them before the meeting even starts.”
Ritchings and his Islanders begin their play-off campaign on Tuesday with a visit to former club Dudley Heathens, and the youngster is keen to perform better than on his last return to Monmore.
“I had a meeting there earlier in the season and it wasn’t great and I only scored four, but this time we know what we have to do different so I want to put a good score in,” he said.
“Dudley are a good side and they finished top of the league again but we want to go there and beat them over two legs.”
