Rossiter unfazed by Ford's fun and games
ROBINS boss Alun Rossiter has accused Poole promoter Matt Ford of playing mind games ahead of the two teams’ play-off semi-final first leg on Monday.
Swindon led the league table for much of the season before finishing second while the Pirates needed a favour from the Wiltshire side to make it in at all, which has led Ford to brand the reigning league champions favourites for the tie.
Rossiter is happy to take the tag but believes the Poole promoter is up to his old tricks ahead of what are sure to be two stunning meetings.
“I’ve seen Matt Ford stating that they’re the underdogs because we’ve been the better team all season and finished in front in the league,” he said.
“Matt is very good at the psychology side of things – he does it every time when it comes to this time of the year. He always puts something out such as the fact that a rider in my team is currently owned by Matt and has a team place with them for next season, as he did with Kyle Howarth.
“Matt’s very good at playing the mind games, but if he wants us to be favourites then let’s be favourites, it doesn’t worry us.
“We are good enough and I do believe it’s only down to unforeseen circumstances that we haven’t finished top of the table.
“But as I’ve always said, the goal is always to get into the play-offs, and finishing second is not a disaster. I’m more than happy with our team going into these matches.”
Fans should note that the meeting will start on time with the first race at approximately 7.40pm. It cannot be delayed in the event of late arrivals at the stadium due to Sky Sports’ broadcast schedule.
