Horseshoe fighter wins Masters crown
6:00am Monday 23rd September 2013 in Sport
SWINDON promoter Keith Mayo enjoyed some significant success on Friday night as his fighter Andy Harris claimed the British Masters title in Barnsley.
Gloucester lightweight Harris, who trains at Mayo’s Horseshoe Gym, beat Robbie Barrett 77-76 on points at the Metrodome to claim the belt in style.
Another of Mayo’s boxers, Swindon’s Joe Beedon, was also in action this weekend as he lost to Josh Leather at the Copper Box in the Olympic Park, but the promoter and manager was pleased with what his two fighters produced.
“Andy went in as an underdog but came out the winner and did really well,” he said.
“That should open a lot of doors for him now so we will just have to see what comes along next.
“Joe got beat but he looked good against a tough opponent who was a world class amateur, and he’s come away with no cuts and no knockdowns which was a great achievement.”
