SWINDON TOWN: Mason ruled out of the big game
6:00am Tuesday 24th September 2013 in Sport
RYAN Mason will miss the Capital One Cup clash with Chelsea after Swindon Town’s medical staff failed to find a miracle cure for the midfielder’s thigh injury.
The on-loan Tottenham youngster picked up the knock in training last week and was absent from Town’s 3-2 victory over Bristol City on Saturday.
Manager Mark Cooper confirmed yesterday that the 22-year-old is still not fit, and it is believed that he will also miss the weekend trip to Preston in League One.
Another casualty is Ryan Harley, who is expected to spend at least another 10 days on the treatment table with medial ligament damage.
Alex Smith is due to go under the knife today in an effort to help the utility player get over a knee injury of his own, while Nathan Byrne serves the final game of his three-match ban.
Alex Pritchard returns from suspension for the Robins but Tijane Reis continues to struggle with his knee problem.
Aaron Oakley’s recovery from a broken foot is ongoing and he misses out.
After watching Nicky Ajose and Dany N’Guessan play well either side of Nile Ranger against CIty at the weekend, Cooper is posed with the question of whether or not to play Pritchard from the start against Chelsea.
He told the Advertiser: “I’ve not decided yet.
“Nicky Ajose scored two on Saturday, Dany N’Guessan I thought played extremely well so it’s going to be a tough decision to make if I do leave anyone out.”
