HELLENIC LEAGUE: Bassett urged to forget drubbing and focus on Reading
WOOTTON Bassett boss Jeff Roberts has urged his players to forget Saturday’s embarrassing 7-0 defeat to Odd Down when they take on Reading Town tonight.
Bassett were dumped out of the FA Vase on Saturday following the heavy defeat, with Roberts now requiring a reaction as they return to league action.
If he doesn’t get it, the Bassett manager hinted he would consider freshening up his squad.
“Saturday was an off day for us, but the result was embarrassing for us so we just need to forget that now and move on,” he said.
“We are looking for a reaction from the players and they know that, and if we don’t get it maybe we will be looking to get more players in.
“It wasn’t acceptable to lose 7-0 because the quality we have in the team is better than that, and we need to find a way to get some confidence going into the next game.
“If we can’t do that then maybe we need to look at things again and see what we can do or change to improve.
“It’s a bit of a rebirth for the club this year with a lot of new players to we knew it would take a little bit of time, but we have quality and should be doing better.”
Roberts also suggested he and his players could increase the number of training sessions they put on as they bid to find the required consistency.
“We are playing against players who will take their chances if we give them to them, so we need to be the same and find the consistency we need,” he said.
“If we need to train three times a week to get that then that’s what we will do because we need to improve.”
In last night’s Hellenic Premier Division action, Highworth slipped to a second defeat in four days, losing 2-0 at home to Oxford City Nomads.
