SWINDON WILDCATS: Wildcats are hitting target, says Moore
6:00am Friday 27th September 2013 in Sport
CAPTAIN Shane Moore has revealed Wildcats are well on their way to achieving their first objective following their flying start to the EPL season.
The Link Centre side have taken seven points out of a possible eight from their opening four games which sees them sit third in both the league and cup tables.
Cats have split their season into five mini leagues of roughly 10 matches each, and with the target for each period 12 points Moore is pleased with his side’s start going into this weekend’s clashes with Manchester and Guildford.
“A four point weekend last time out was brilliant for us and we played really well, and to go to a place like Peterborough and get the win was fantastic,” he said.
“That’s a really platform for us to work on, and although we haven’t really set targets we have broken the league down into five mini leagues throughout the season which we are looking to get 12 points from.
“If you look at the league over the last couple of years you can see it’s being won on around the 70 point mark, so if we can hit 70 points across the season we will be there.
“For us to get seven out of eight so far is fantastic and we have a really good chemistry with a good mix of experience, youth, speed and toughness.”
Moore has enjoyed his first four competitive games as captain, and admitted taking on the job has changed the way he goes about his business on the ice.
“To be captain of my hometown is a brilliant feeling and I’ve really enjoyed it so far, and I’ve got to a point in my career now where the boys respect me,” he said.
“I’m not the best player on the ice but hopefully my vocal side can show how passionate I am about the club.
“I’ve smartened up because I used to be a bit of a run and gun hockey player who took 100 penalties a year, and although I’ve calmed down a little bit I won’t change the way I play.
“I’ll still be in your face and if I take penalties they will be for a reason and not stupid ones anymore.”
