Supermarine Ladies see off Reading
6:00am Friday 27th September 2013 in Sport
SUPERMARINE Ladies got their season off and running in style as they picked up all five points from their 29-17 victory at Reading.
Marine got off to a strong start as they dominated the clash from kick-off, with their strong pack driving their opposition back at every opportunity.
It didn’t take long before scrum-half Leanne Sear opened the scoring through a well worked score, and as Marine continued to attack with pace flanker Claire Chard added a second try which was converted by outside centre Nat Williams.
Reading put up a good fight and were rewarded with a try before half-time as Marine went in with a 12-5 lead, and although Reading tried to make up ground after the interval Supermarine continued to dominate proceedings.
An injury for the home side resulted in a change of pitch but Supermarine didn’t lose focus and tries for Dee Hardwick, converted again by Williams, and a second for Sear soon followed as the visitors’ lead was further extended.
Reading continued to apply pressure with the ball in hands and they managed to break away down the wing for their second try and with only a few minutes left on the clock Supermarine gave away a penalty try and found themselves down to 14 players.
Despite the late scare they were able to hang onto the ball to secure the victory.
