Swindon's Young to face unbeaten Buglioni
SWINDON super-middleweight Kelvin Young will put his Southern Area title on the line against highly-rated Frank Buglioni next month.
Young, who successfully defended his title against Sam Couzens in September, will take on undefeated Buglioni at the Copper Box in London’s Olympic Park on Saturday, November 30.
The clash takes place on the undercard to Frank Warren’s Rock The Box II show which features British boxing stars Dereck Chisora and Billy Joe Saunders.
Buglioni is ranked 13th in the British rankings, two ahead of Young, and will start as favourite for the contest.
But Young’s Swindon boxer promoter Keith Mayo believes the Penhill boxer is ready for the step up in class.
“It is a big step up for Kelvin,” admitted Mayo. “It is in a big arena and against an undefeated opponent.
“Kelvin starts as an underdog for sure but I think that’s a good thing.
“People didn’t think Kelvin would beat Sam Couzens last time but he went out and did the business. Buglioni is no mug for sure, he is a class act but he hasn’t really fought anyone decent yet.”
The winner at the Copper Box should be handed a shot at the English title - currently held by young sensation Callum Smith - but Mayo isn’t looking past the Buglioni fight.
“The winner will be a contender to fight for the English title but we aren’t looking that far ahead with Kelvin,” added Mayo.
“We are taking it one fight at a time and he and Buglioni have to fight first so we will see what happens.
“Kelvin is in great shape already and he has been sparring with Carl Froch up in Sheffield.
“His last fight was the best I’ve seen him and I’m sure there’s more to come for the Buglioni fight.”
