WILTS SENIOR CUP: Blaine to forget goal target
STRIKER Blaine Fitzgerald says the pressure is off his shoulders as Purton prepare to make the trip to Calne in the Wiltshire Senior Cup this weekend.
The Red House side face their Western League rivals in the first round of the competition at Bremhill View and Fitzgerald says he will not pressure himself to find the net.
Fitzgerald targets a goal a game in Hellenic League Division One West but in the cup all he is concerned about is the team going through rather than his own personal total.
“I like to keep my goal tally at one a game in the league but in the cup I forget about goalscoring and just focus on getting us into the next round,” he said.
“It normally works out quite well in the cups as I am more relaxed and I like these games as there is no pressure.
“We all want to compete in every game and I’m sure we’ve got the potential to get to the latter stages in the cup.
“We can beat teams like Calne and I’d like to think we will win at the weekend.”
Elsewhere in the competition, New College will hope to avoid a slip-up when they travel to WIltshire League Premier Division outfit Ludgershall.
Meanwhile, the draw for the second round of the Challenge Cup has been made with four of our local sides still involved.
New College entertain Rayners Lane at the Webb’s Wood Stadium while Purton travel to Beversbrook.
Ties will be scheduled, as far as possible, for Saturday, October 26.
