SOUTHERN LEAGUE: Chippenham are well beaten again
6:00am Monday 14th October 2013 in Sport
A HAT-TRICK from Drew Roberts condemned Chippenham to a 3-0 defeat at home to Chesham in the Southern Premier.
Even returning defender Ross Adams – signed on a month’s loan from Basingstoke – couldn’t inspire Bluebirds to victory.
Despite a positive start by the hosts, it was Chesham that took the lead. Steve Wales was fouled outside the box and Roberts curled a superb free kick past the helpless Ben John.
The striker doubled his personal tally just before the half-hour mark and again Wales had a hand in the effort.
Wales sent Roberts clear with a measured through-ball and the forward deftly lobbed John to make it 2-0.
The hosts’ misery was complete when the Chesham man completed his hat-trick in the 56th minute.
Luke Murden lunged in on Roberts in the area and the referee immediately pointed to the spot, with Roberts beating John to his right.
Meanwhile, it is understood that former Frome midfielder Darren Jeffries has been training with Chippenham with a view to a move. The 19-year-old is a Swindon Town academy product.
The Bluebirds are yet to confirm whether ex- Clevedon man Ben Murray has been released.
