SWINDON TOWN: Away win a big relief for Byrne
NATHAN Byrne was delighted Swindon Town proved they are no soft touch on their travels with a resounding win at Rotherham United.
Having taken just a single point from their first five games away from home in League One this season, Town needed a win on the road to boost their confidence and goals from Alex Pritchard, Massimo Luongo, Nicky Ajose and Dany N’Guessan meant they managed exactly that at the New York Stadium.
Byrne said after the game that it was important for the Robins to show they can stand up to a physical test after being muscled out of the game at Preston a fortnight previously.
He said: “When you see teams who haven’t won away from home they can get that reputation for being soft and you can get into their faces. Our team is nothing like that, we’ve had a few things go against us and we haven’t performed away but today we had a gameplan, stuck to it and it worked in the end “We knew we needed an away win because we hadn’t got one in the league, the boys had a gameplan and we set out doing that from the start.
“We knew if we stayed in the game we had the forward-thinking players to put the goals in. It was about staying in the game and riding the storm early doors and I think then there was only going to be one winner.
“We want to play good football on the floor, we’re not a team that’s going to smash it long because we simply don’t have the players to do that. If we keep the ball long enough any team is going to get tired, even the top teams.
“That’s the gameplan in all our games but we knew coming here wasn’t going to be easy. They were very similar to Preston in how they press high and get very physical and I think we stood up to that today.”
