SWINDON TOWN: Cooper tips Ranger to improve
SWINDON Town manager Mark Cooper has backed talismanic striker Nile Ranger to start banging in the goals again soon.
Ranger is going through a mini goalscoring drought at present, having failed to find the net in his last four Town appearances, while the former Newcastle frontman has registered just once since the home clash with Crewe on August 31.
Cooper, however, is not worried. He believes Ranger’s physical presence up front is creating chances for the rest of the Robins team and does not feel the 22-year-old’s barren run will last much longer.
“He’s a target man, he holds it up and makes the space for everyone else to play,” said Cooper.
“If we can keep him fit he’s a real asset. He’s fine.
“He’ll weigh in with enough goals before the end of the season.”
Meanwhile, Cooper is delighted by the contributions made to the Town cause by Dany N’Guessan and Nicky Ajose since their arrivals in Wiltshire.
N’Guessan has bagged four goals in eight appearances for the Robins while Ajose has got four in nine, including two in Swindon’s last two outings.
Cooper gave special praise to the pair after the 4-0 defeat of Rotherham United at the New York Stadium on Saturday.
He said: “They score goals. Nicky, wherever he’s been, has got a one in two goalscoring record and Dany’s chipped in now with a few goals. We’ve just got to get the big man scoring a few.
“Dany has come from the Championship and his attitude has been good. He’s still getting his fitness. He’s not been playing a lot and I think there’ll be more to come from Dany.”
Meanwhile, Yaser Kasim has not travelled to the middle east to meet up with the Iraqi national team following his call-up last month.
Kasim was summoned for his country’s Asia Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia in Jordan, which takes place today, but has not joined up with the rest of the Iraqi squad.
The midfielder, who recently penned a two-year contract extension in Wiltshire, has played 14 times for the Robins so far this season.
