RED INSURE CUP: Jackson treble secures Marine progress
A CLASSY hat-trick from Kayden Jackson gave Swindon Supermarine a 3-0 win over North Leigh in the first round of the Red Insure Cup last night.
The Swindon Town loanee, in the penultimate game of his temporary spell at the Webb's Wood Stadium, grabbed his opener after 19 minutes when he jinked away from two men and slotted coolly past keeper Paul White.
Morgan Williams and skipper Wayne Turk both went close for the visitors just before half-time, the latter heading straight at stopper Kent Kauppinen when it looked easier to score.
Following the resumption, left-back Danny Allen worried White with a curling free kick and then Williams directed a diving header over at the other end.
Jackson made North Leigh pay for their profligacy when he scored an even better version of his first goal midway through the second period. Cutting in from the right, the striker left one marker on his backside and ghosted past another before firing into the far corner.
The Win a Pro Contract winner completed his treble with seven minutes remaining as he streaked clear of the covering defenders and unleashed a low effort that squirmed under White.
Marine boss Dave Webb said afterwards: “They were three great goals from Kayden. He’s only got a week left on his loan and I want him to go out on fire and he certainly showed his quality tonight.
“I was able to make six changes from the team that played on Saturday and the pick for me was Mani Randhawa, I thought he was outstanding bearing in mind he’s had one 90 and one 60 for Westbury (since coming back from a pelvis injury).”
Elsewhere in the cup, Cirencester edged a 1-0 victory at Cinderford while new signing Dean Griffiths made a substitute appearance as Chippenham triumphed 2-1 at Frome.
Meanwhile, Highworth hammered Cirencester Dev 8-2 in the Hellenic League Floodlit Cup.
Keeper Marcus Lewis has departed Division One West outfit Purton to join Beversbrook.
