SWINDON TOWN: Local amateur makes Samsung trials
CHIPPENHAM amateur footballer Jordan Randerson has been shortlisted in a nationwide competition that could earn him a deal at Swindon Town.
The 20-year-old winger will take part in first round of trials for Samsung’s Win A Pro Contract competition, with three winners signing for Swindon, Wycombe and Leyton Orient respectively.
More than 5,700 players from all over the country entered and Randerson is one of 360 through to a skills testing session, with the wide man’s trial taking place in Bristol.
“Last year I was in the competition and I got to the last 88, but everyone I was playing against seemed much older,” said Randerson.
“But I thought I’d give it another go because a year later I’m a lot bigger and playing in a position I am much more comfortable and experienced in.
“It’s a big opportunity, but I’ve got to make sure I perform. I’m feeling a lot calmer this time around because I know what’s coming and I’m going to take it step by step.
“I’m hoping to get further than I did last year and if I was to go all the way it would be a rollercoaster of emotions and ultimately a dream come true.”
Amongst those that will take part in first-round trials from Wiltshire are 17-year-old defender Sheldon Weinman from Pewsey and 18-year-old midfielder Luke Odam from Melksham.
