Midfielder set to return against Notts County tonight
MARK Cooper has backed Ryan Mason to make a big impression upon his return to the Swindon Town squad from injury, saying the best is yet to come from the on-loan Tottenham midfielder.
Mason will play a part for Town in their League One clash with Notts County tonight after a month-long lay-off due to a thigh problem, and Cooper is delighted to have his playmaker available to him once again.
Four goals in his first seven appearances for the Robins, including a hat-trick in his last outing at the County Ground against Crewe and a howitzer at Wolves, set the tone for a season Cooper hopes will be prolific for both Mason and Swindon.
“He’s a match-winner,” he said. “We want to make sure we have him for the rest of the season. It’s no good having him for one game and then missing six, we want him for the majority of the rest of the season.
“If he plays a number of games between now and the end of the season he scores a lot of goals and makes a lot of chances.
“It’s important that we get him back into the group quickly and try to get him some time on the pitch as well.
“In small doses at times he has looked what he is, which is a very good footballer in terms of creating and scoring goals, but there’s a lot more to come from him.
“Let’s get him really back to match fitness and a run of three or four games and I think we’ll see the real best of him.”
