Schlein wins ELRC
10:59pm Saturday 19th October 2013 in Sport
KING’S Lynn rider Rory Schlein has won the Elite League Riders Championship staged at Blunsdon this evening.
The Australian triumphed over Stars teammate Niels-Kristian Iversen, Belle Vue’s Craig Cook and Swindon skipper Hans Andersen in the final to win the title in a meeting held in difficult conditions.
The Abbey Stadium track was covered with sawdust before the start in an attempt to dry it out following a late afternoon shower, but the move didn’t pay off as the meeting was postponed for an hour after four heats for a prolonged spell of track grading.
The qualifying stage was cut from 20 to 16 heats in a bid to get the meeting finished, with Schlein eventually coming out on top just as he did in 2011.
Robins rider Troy Batchelor was eliminated in the semi-final while Dane Peter Kildemand fell one point short of a place in the semi.
