For a full report from tonight's game and reaction, see tomorrow's Swindon Advertiser. And look out for more Wildcats news throughout the week. So long.
So Swindon's players retire to the locker room to chew that one over. Time for this reporter to gauge some reaction to the performance, which I suspect will be mixed.
Hoog is Swindon's man of the match. Well-earned. He gave it everything throughout the 60 minutes.
MK had the better of the final period and that's what edged it for them in the end. Swindon seemed to lose a lot of momentum in the final 10 minutes.
Milton Keynes 6 Swindon 4. The same score twice in a weekend. Could have been so different.
GOAL! Milton Keynes 6 Wildcats 4, 57.51
Smith sees his angled shot parried away by Wall. Moments later Tom Carlon is away down the other end and he dumps Lyle on the floor before tapping into the net. A very good goal and it's curtains for Swindon.
Cats got two points at Bracknell last Sunday when a goal down going in the closing minutes. Can they do it again?
Bullas worries Wall on the rebound but does not get his reward.
Just over four minutes left. Cats need a goal and they need it fast.
MK are sensing blood here.
GOAL! Milton Keynes 5 Wildcats 4, 52.58, PP
Lascek is unchallenged behind the goal and he has plenty of time to pick out a pass to McPherson, who blasts low past Lyle.
Lyle stops a Tom Carlon shot from point-blank range.
Smith gets two minutes for boarding.
Cannot call this one. It's been even the whole way through.
Nine minutes left.
Jamieson had an age to get his shot off after a lovely three-player move. He delayed and Lyle saved.
GOAL! Milton Keynes 4 Wildcats 4, 48.46
Lascek has got MK right back in this. It was never going to be easy, was it?
Pekkarinen penalised for interference.
Same again. Jokila tees up Jamieson but he slams off-target. MK should be level.
Lax defending allows MK a two-on-one but Ross Bowers shoots straight at Lyle. Fortunate.
THIRD PERIOD UNDER WAY
We're off again. Cats back to full strength.
#wildcatslive this is a big period for Swindon in terms of the cup competition this year @nedpayne1 wish I was there to watch it!!— @slapshot6032 20 October 2013
Great effort on the tweets tonight, all. You know what I'm going to say - keep them coming.
We can do this! Just got to focus and give 100% for one more period and the points will come. Lets go Wildcats! #wildcatslive— @Thomas_Graham92 20 October 2013
And here are the players.
We are minutes away from the final period here at the SkyDome. Feeling confident? Thought so.
You can't say there hasn't been plenty going on in this game. Lots of entertainment.
To be a fly on the wall in that Swindon dressing room right now. They have been right on the pace in this game and will be very disappointed if they don't take two points. A mere 20 minutes to hang on.
Goodness knows how Godfrey is in the box. He was quite clearly the peacemaker in that incident. Ah well.
END OF THE SECOND PERIOD
Well that was a bizarre ending to that period.
Great news guys, keep on fighting! @WildcatsLive— @rebeccabrace1D 20 October 2013
DOUBLE POWERPLAY LIGHTNING
Alex Symonds flattens Jokila when he has a clear shot on goal. For some reason it's Godfrey that goes into the box. He was holding Jokila afterwards but that was to stop it all kicking off.
Watt binned for delay of game.
GOAL! Milton Keynes 3 Wildcats 4, 37.32
Within a couple of seconds of blowing the powerplay, Swindon are in front again. Hoog skips round the back and pulls back for Watt to beat Wall from close in. Game on!
A bit loose from Swindon. Didn't make the most of that.
Grant McPherson gets two minutes.
Harding goes close again but is denied by Wall.
All Wildcats at the moment.
GOAL! Milton Keynes 3 Wildcats 3, 32.36
Skipper Shane Moore plays out to head coach Ryan Aldridge who streaks clear down the right and his slapshot just about squirms under Wall and across the line. It's been coming.
A shot bounces off Lyle's leg pad and away off the pipes. Gulp.
Silvander and Sandvik both go unbelievably close! That's three really good opportunities in a matter of moments.
Bullas has a good chance from close in that Wall is equal to.
I should mention that former Wildcats head coach and current Great Britain Under-20s chief Pete Russell is on the Swindon bench tonight.
GOAL! Milton Keynes 3 Wildcats 2, 25.25
Deary me. Lyle, so often the hero for Swindon, is way off limits behind the net. He's dispossessed, the puck is played back by Connor Goode and Jordan Cownie has the simple task of tapping into the unguarded net.
Lyle gloves away well from Stan Lascek.
Henri Sandvik somehow directs wide from right in front of the net. How did he miss?
Shots on goal in the first period were 11 for both sides.
START OF THE SECOND PERIOD
The players are back out.
The zamboni is out and doing a terrific job.
The zamboni is out and doing a terrific job.
Swindon were the better team for the majority of that period, but had a bit of a meltdown. The second goal was unfortunate but the first was preventable.
Stop giving away penalties!!! They scored 2 of their goals on the PP yesterday and two here. Sort it out Swindon #wildcatslive— @hornet303 20 October 2013
Decent chance for Stevie Whitfield on the buzzer. Off-target.
END OF THE FIRST PERIOD
Plenty of action in that opening 20 minutes, a bit different to Bracknell last Sunday.
One minute left of the first period.
Hoog binned for high-sticks.
GOAL! Milton Keynes 2 Wildcats 2, 16.07
A shot from Carr hits Aku Pekkarinen and flashes past Lyle. Dreadfully unlucky as the shot didn't look like it was going in. MK have scored twice inside two minutes.
GOAL! Milton Keynes 1 Wildcats 2, PP
With Sam Bullas binned, Michael Farn gets on the end of a hit and hope-style shot from Blaz Emersic. The Lightning are back in it.
The Swindon goaltender directs away with his stick from Janne Jokila and that's about as good a chance as MK have had.
Lyle has to be alert to deny Carr.
Over the top of the pipes by Juha Silvander. Should have forced Wall into a save really.
Eight minutes to go of the first period.
5:35pm Sun 20 Oct 13
Well we have the start again to maybe set up a better finale!
I might say at this point that Swindon were 2-0 up in the first period last night. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Plenty of pressure but no third goal.
Michael Farn is binned for slashing.
GOAL! Milton Keynes 0 Wildcats 2, 6.18
This is getting better and better. Hoog nips round the back of Wall's goal before firing into the danger zone and Adam Harding gets on the end of it to stab past the MK goaltender. Cracking.
5:25pm Sun 20 Oct 13
Cats won two of the three periods last night and played well, just totally capitulated in the 2nd.
I think we can do this.
Tough call on Aldridge at 4-5 when we were flying stopped us as did the non offside call directly leading to their sixth.
Let's hope for a better finale tonight, yes?
GOAL! Milton Keynes 0 Wildcats 1, 3.58
Jonas Hoog steams in on goal from the left and tricks Stephen Wall a treat, sending him one way and then another before tapping in to the netminder's right. Super start for Swindon.
Floyd Taylor tests Wall. Simple save.
Betteridge has had Swindon's only chance of the first couple of minutes.
Stevie Lyle spills and Adam Carr is right on him. Early escape.
We are under way in Coventry.
Time for the anthem.
Both teams have emerged.
In case you missed it, two of Swindon Wildcats' young stars – Ollie Betteridge and Sam Godfrey – have been called up to the Great Britain Under-20s squad for the forthcoming World Championship (Division 1B) in Dumfries, Scotland.
Betteridge said: “I’m so happy to have made the squad.
“Being given the chance to represent your country at any level is special and this is a very strong squad of players, so I think we stand a good chance of having a successful tournament.
“We’ll certainly be aiming to secure some silverware.”
We're minutes away from face-off here in Coventry. Keep those predictions coming in via Twitter and the comments section below #wildcatslive
#wildcatslive We can do it wildcats, leave everything on the ice and give 100% and the points will come! Hoogy to get a couple of goals!— @slapshot6032 20 October 2013
The referee tonight is Mr Pering assisted by Mr Starsmere and Mr Earl.
Speaking of Mr Nell, rumours are doing the rounds that he wants to leave Elite League Sheffield having moved there in the summer. The forward has got one goal and one assist in 13 appearances for the Steelers this season, numbers which are somewhat alien to him having topped the century mark in the EPL last campaign. If the 23-year-old is looking for a move, and it is a big if, I can think of plenty of clubs who would be happy to take him.
Coventry really do have a magnificent arena here. Any seat in the house and you can see everything that's going on. Fabulous.
Come on Cats! Play for the full 60 minutes & you can win this. Better team for two periods last night! Bring home two points!! #wildcatslive— @hornet303 20 October 2013
There's a few tweets coming in, keep them rolling, including from those of you who are here at the SkyDome. We want to hear from all of you!
@nedpayne1 #wildcatslive Couldn't make it tonight but good luck lads! Lets share the points this weekend!— @charrabi1 20 October 2013
The last time the Wildcats played at the SkyDome Arena in 2009/10, they lost 5-2 in the play-off semi-final against Guildford, with Aaron Nell getting both of the Swindon goals. Remember that?
There's nothing quite like a new signing to stir up a bit of excitement and Swindon brought in a new face in the week in the form of Ryan Watt, who returned for a third spell with the Link Centre club. He is targeting big points with the Wildcats this season.
Watt said: “I’m not going to be a goon or a third-line grinder. I’d rather the fans wanted me to score than wanted me to fight.
“Fighting is fun but the buzz you get when you score a game-winning goal is even better.
“I don’t like people to take advantage of other players on the team and I’ll stick up for them as much as I can, but at the same time I don’t want to be sitting in the bin for 12 to 14 minutes a game when I could be scoring goals.
“I’ve got a lot more experience than when I was last in Swindon. Pete (Russell, former head coach) had me on the third line but this time I’m going to be a top-six player and add points.
“I feel I’ve matured as a person and a player on the ice. I was short-tempered when I was growing up but instead of taking a stupid penalty, now I channel my energy into working hard.”
The entire Wildcats line-up is out on the ice warming up, apart from injury cover import Jan Melichar of course.

In case you're wondering why the heck this Milton Keynes 'home' match is being played at the SkyDome Arena in Coventry, the answer is because the Lightning's Thunderdome rink is undergoing refurbishment. It's a mere 100-mile round trip for the 'home' side. For the Wildcats the venue change makes very little difference as like the Thunderdome, the SkyDome is 70 miles from the Link Centre.
Hello and welcome to the SkyDome Arena in Coventry where Swindon are taking on MK Lightning tonight. Sit down, strap yourself in and enjoy the ride. You've got plenty coming your way in the next few hours.
