GIRLS' FOOTBALL: Town Under 16s sting the Vipers
6:00am Tuesday 22nd October 2013 in Sport
SWINDON Town Ladies Under 16s defeated Laurel Park Vipers 2-0 at Halcrow as they went top of Berkshire Girls League Division One.
Town were defensively comfortable at the back in the first half with keeper Rhiannon Brown claiming any loose balls.
Amy Jolliffe and Sophie Boycott were lively up front but found the Laurel Parks keeper in good form and she made a number of smart stops to keep her side in the game.
Town broke the deadlock early in the second half when Jess Graham raced up the right flank and delivered a terrific cross into Amy Jolliffe, who fired into the net.
The visitors began to dominate all over the pitch but an injury saw Town forced into a reshuffle at the back, with Laurel Park unable to capitalise.
Jolliffe nearly had a second but the hosts played the offside trap perfectly and the flag was raised on the touchline.
Town swiftly regained control of general play with twins Karolayne and Kayane Byrom pulling the strings in midfield, allowing Graham to push forward and make it 2-0.
The visitors then wound the clock down to ensure they took three points and jumped to the stop of the standings.
