SUNDAY LEAGUE: Cup shocker for the Wheatsheaf

THERE were three major upsets as the season’s cup competitions took centre stage in the Swindon Sunday League, writes KEVIN BRIDGEMAN.
Nationwide Pavilion were the day’s biggest giantkillers as they overcame the Wheatsheaf 4-3 despite a three-division gulf between the sides.
Dave Rendle bagged all four goals for Pavilion with Glenn Armstrong, Josh Connolly and Luke Connolly replying for Wheatsheaf.
Division Three leaders FC Walcot dominated their game from start to finish against Castrol from Division One and produced a shock 6-1 win thanks to goals from Zak Knight, Jason Milhench, Levi Cox, Dean Hughes and a Lee Hayward double.
KC Globe from Division Three triumphed 9-4 away at Division Two side West Swindon Wanderers, while The Dolphin proved too strong for Nationwide and comfortably won 11-4.
AFC Gas beat SKS Blyskawica 3-1 and two goals apiece from Warren Fuller and Stuart Fraser sent New Century through at the expense of The Windmill.
In the Bunny Uzzell Memorial Shield, Division Five side DBS FC caused the biggest upset at Ridgeway School by overcoming Division Two Dynamo Ashton 7-1 as Jamie Williams lead the way with four goals. A John Ferry brace and an own goal completed the scoring.
Dan Owen and a Floyd Garrett double ensured AFC Swindon booked their passage into the second round as they sent Toothill Revolution crashing out, while Aaron Northcott and Jonathan Walters replied for Toothill.
Rosier Rovers were the other side to progress at the expense of higher league opposition as they beat PL Motor Service 3-2.
In the day’s other games, AFC Freshbrook beat Cricklade Park Rangers 5-1, AFC Greendown were 6-2 victors against Swindon Athletic and Coleshill Youth cruised through 7-2 against Cricklade MTA.
The majority of the games in the Chairman’s Trophy were all true to form, apart from Rodbourne Real who overcame Cleeve Tech from the league above 3-2 with two goals for Jonathan Reeves and one for Michael Habgood.
Inter Sandgate were top scorers on the day winning 14-1 against 1957 Parks with top scorer Richie Crocker scoring 11 of the total with Jake Page, Craig Alexander and Rob Malcolm-Stewart the other scorers.
Trak FC eased past DH Fitness 5-0, AC Swindon FC were 4-2 victors at Bounce Squad, Penhill United were pushed hard by Smart Movers FC but eventually won 4-2 and in the all Division Six affair Save on Tyres Athletic were victorious over AFC Royal 3-1.
