SWINDON TOWN: Johnson hopes Latics have turned corner
OLDHAM boss Lee Johnson believes his side’s 2-1 victory over Swindon could be the beginning of their rise up the League One table.
The Boundary Park side sat 19th in the standings going into the weekend’s game but goals from Carl Winchester and Danny Philliskirk ensured they took three points from a Town side which begin the week in the play-off places.
Following Johnson’s appointment at the back end of last season the Latics had to scrap for their lives to keep hold of a place in the third tier, but after their latest victory moved them up two places the young manager is looking to the future.
"It was a great win because, make no mistake, they are a very good side and they have some very good players," he said.
"It was all about the lads today because, honestly, they had to dig deep to put in that effort, especially we have had such a lot of games.
"If we can win our game in hand and pick up three points at Notts County on Tuesday, we can start to look at getting into the top half of the table and punching above our weight.
“The players have a good mindset and are giving everything. They are young and have to learn but as a group they are moving in the right direction.”
Town and Oldham go head to head in League One again on February 1 when the Latics visit the County Ground.
