KELVIN Young has been handed a shot at the vacant IBO International title in what is set to be the biggest night of boxing Swindon has ever seen.
Young’s opponent for the super middleweight bout is yet to be confirmed but it is expected to be German-based Syrian Baker Barakat who has won 38 of his 57 fights, with 26 coming by knockout. Barakat and has been in the ring with world title challenger George Groves this year but was knocked out on the second round.
Young has had to vacate his Southern Area title and opt out of a fight with Frank Buglioni at the Copper Box to take the contest at the Oasis Leisure Centre on December 7, but is looking forward to testing himself at a higher level.
“I honestly thought I would be defending my Southern Area title against Frank Buglioni and I was looking forward to that fight so hopefully we can meet again in the future for a bigger title,” he said.
“This was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down but I need to focus on gameplans and what I need to do.”
